Propaganda, like dairy products, should come with an expiration date. It's usually abandoned once it has served its purpose. The WMD story worked very well when it was needed to whip up war fever. It provided a temporary excuse, disarmed skepticism, isolated critics. Now it isn't needed anymore and should be discarded before it becomes too ridiculous.

The US chief occupation administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, has issued a proclamation outlawing any "gatherings, pronouncements or publications that call for opposition to the US occupation." (June13, 2003, ACN)

Lundi, [16 juin] le président américain a affirmé que la guerre contre l'Irak était justifiée par le besoin d'assurer la sécurité des Etats-Unis, s'en prenant aux "historiens révisionnistes" qui mettent en doute sa nécessité.

"Ce pays (les Etats-Unis) a réagi à une menace représentée par le dictateur irakien. Maintenant, certains aimeraient réécrire l'histoire, je les appelle des "historiens révisionnistes", a déclaré M. Bush dans un discours à Elizabeth (New Jersey, Est).

Holocaust revisionism took decades to rear its ugly head, but the whitewashers of war crimes in the Bush Regime are trying to pervert the facts of history mere weeks after their Leader triumphantly declared "mission accomplished" in the war on Iraq. "Weapons of mass destruction?" Never heard of 'em. Never mentioned 'em. Maybe we'll find some. Not that important. Time to move on. Hey, how about a tax cut?
But even as revisionist-in-chief George W. Bush was staging his somber photo-op in Auschwitz last week, the web of lies he and his little buddy Tony Blair concocted to "justify" launching an act of military aggression -- on the very Hitlerian grounds of "preventive war" -- was being shredded by their own intelligence services. In an unprecedented move, U.S and British spies went public to denounce the cartoonish manipulation of professional intelligence data by the war-hungry leaders. Reports of Saddam's "imminent threat" were "sexed up" on Blair's order, said British spooks, while American agents said Bush was spoon-fed a stew of uncorroborated confabulation by a "special team" of ideological hatchet-men overseen by Pentagon honcho Don Rumsfeld. Thus revisionism -- panicky, cynical, maladroit -- was the order of the day. Rumsfeld -- whose smirking rictus of iron certainty was a mainstay of the drive to war -- began backing off big-time. Maybe there weren't any WMD, he shrugged; maybe Saddam destroyed them before the war. Unfortunately, the British press dug up a quote from St. Tony himself on the subject: "We are asked to accept Saddam decided to destroy those weapons. I say that such a claim is palpably absurd." But to be fair, Blair's broadside was fired long ago, practically in cave-man times: March 18, 2003, to be exact. It's certainly irrelevant in our go-go modern world, where history is written with water and each day is a new blank page.
So it was most apt that the only question Bush was heard to ask during his Auschwitz tour actually dealt with Holocaust revisionism: "Do people challenge the accuracy of what you present?" he asked his guide, The New York Times reports. This might seem a rather bizarre question at first glance -- but then, Bush has a personal stake in the cultivation of historical amnesia. His own family fortune was built in part by a long and profitable collusion with the Nazis -- an ugly story oft told here, and raked up again by Newsweek. [...]
So perhaps George Walker Bush felt uneasy treading on the bone-ash that lies beneath the soft, green grass of Auschwitz. Or perhaps not. For quietly buried in the back pages last week was news that the Walker-Bush tradition of war profiteering carries on. A small brief in the Financial Times revealed that Bush-connected "reconstruction" firms Halliburton and Bechtel, now in control of Iraq's oil fields, want to raise massive bank loans using future oil profits as collateral. In other words, these Establishment grandees will pocket billions in free money that will have to be paid back later by the Iraqi people, if and when their oil fields are returned.

A Paris, 40 000 personnes ont fêté l'amitié
entre la France et Israël
MM. Sarkozy et Madelin vivement applaudis

Vingt-deux ans qu'une telle manifestation n'avait pas eu lieu en France. La dernière en date remontait à 1981. Depuis, la communauté juive de France avait bien connu les Yom Hatorah (journées de la Torah) organisées par le grand rabbin de France, Joseph Sitruk. Mais elle n'avait pas revécu ces "douze heures pour l'amitié France-Israël".
Si c'était un pari, il a réussi: 40.000 personnes, selon les organisateurs, ont participé, dimanche 22 juin, à cette manifestation au parc des expositions de la porte de Versailles, à Paris. Les initiateurs étaient le Conseil représentatif des institutions juives de France (CRIF), le Fonds social juif unifié (FSJU), le Consistoire central et le Consistoire de Paris. [organisation 100 % juifs algériens] Une grande partie de la communauté juive éprouvait le besoin de manifester son attachement à Israël, et de se réconforter après une succession sans précédent d'actes antisémites.

Mea culpa de la gauche
A l'entrée du hall d'exposition, des personnes distribuaient un guide pratique, expliquant comment procéder lorsqu'on est victime d'un acte antisémite. Des loubavitchs proposaient aux hommes de passer les phylactères. Mais c'est le "look chalala" qui dominait chez les plus jeunes: bustier moulant et bijoux en or pour les filles, tee-shirt noir et cheveux gominés sous la kippa pour les garçons. Mais l'accessoire qui avait le plus de succès était la plaque d'identité du soldat israélien gravé à son nom porté en sautoir.
Le hall de conférence était envahi par un public passionné, qui applaudissait Enrico Macias et chantait La Marseillaise. Le président du comité d'organisation, Meyer Habib, a exprimé à la tribune son "incompréhension face à la politique de la France, qui ne reconnaît pas le Hamas et le Hezbollah comme des organisations terroristes, qui ne reconnaît pas Jérusalem comme la capitale d'Israël, éternelle et indivisible".
Plusieurs hommes politiques sont intervenus, au cours d'une soirée animée par le journaliste Ivan Levaï, en présence de l'ancien premier ministre israélien Benyamin Nétanyahou. Celui qui a été le plus applaudi, juste derrière Alain Madelin, est sans nul doute Nicolas Sarkozy. "Israël est une grande démocratie, et c'est suffisant pour être salué et respecté", a souligné le ministre de l'intérieur. "C'est la raison pour laquelle je n'ai pas accepté que le drapeau israélien soit bafoué par une croix gammée au cours des manifestations qui ont eu lieu contre la guerre en Irak. Parce que c'est de l'incitation à la haine raciale. Israël a le droit à la sécurité, comme toute démocratie dans le monde, ni plus, ni moins." [C'est la démocratie du massacre et de la torture. On est content de savoir qu'elle a des "droits", lesquels au fait ? ]
Le ministre de l'intérieur a ensuite évoqué les actes antisémites commis en France : "Quand un juif est bafoué parce qu'il est juif, ce n'est pas le problème de la communauté juive, c'est celui de la communauté nationale: l'antisémitisme, c'est l'affaire de la République." Pour Nicolas Sarkozy, "la France n'est pas un pays antisémite, mais il existe de l'antisémitisme en France. La seule attitude possible des pouvoirs publics, c'est de ne rien tolérer."
De son côté, la gauche française a du mal à faire passer son message. Le premier secrétaire du PS, François Hollande, a recueilli quelques sifflets, tandis qu'il essayait de convaincre l'auditoire de "l'attachement indéfectible des socialistes à l'Etat d'Israël". [surtout à sa politique de massacre raciste et d'occupation, rappelons-nous les effusions du trotzkard Jospin avec l'assassin décoré, Ehoud Barak ! ] Sur les actes antisémites commis en France, il a lancé un bref mea culpa : "Il faut condamner, et condamner plus vite que nous ne l'avons fait."
Mais c'est l'ancien ministre des finances Dominique Strauss-Kahn qui s'est employé le plus vigoureusement à recoller les morceaux avec une communauté juive visiblement fâchée avec la gauche: "Comme juif, j'ai une sympathie naturelle pour Israël. Comme socialiste, j'ai une sympathie politique. La gauche vous a déçu. Il y a eu des notes non autorisées -- allusion à un texte rédigé par l'universitaire Pascal Boniface, préconisant un changement de politique du PS à l'égard d'Israël --. Elles étaient misérables..." Et M. Strauss-Kahn de conclure : "Je vous annonce que la gauche est de retour !"

Admirons ces merveilleux progressistes, anti-racistes et donneurs de leçons de la "gauche" française, héritière de si nobles traditions. Il faut un courage surhumain pour se solidariser avec cette entreprise de vol et de dépossession, avec cette armée de soudards massacreurs, tortionnaires, qui essaie par tous les moyens d'empêcher des gens de vivre, ou même simplement d'exister. Guernica, Lidice, Oradour, ils n'aiment pas. Sabra, Chatila, Djénine, ils adorent. Les socialistes, quand ils voient le massacre des musulmans, ça les fait bander. Ils aimeraient bien pouvoir génocider un peu, de temps en temps, comme au Rwanda, les potes à Mitterrand. Le socialisme de Gilles de Rais, bien trempé de sang et de cervelles éclatées qui dégoulinent sur les murs. Il était urgent de se solidariser avec ces gens-là. Pensons qu'il y a 40.000 Français, ou prétendus tels, qui ont pris la peine de venir et de payer pour manifester leur amour humide et leur solidarité chaleureuse avec cette gigantesque entreprise de crimes contre l'humanité, contre les hommes, femmes et enfants du pays qu'ils prétendent s'approprier par la force. Si on appliquait les règles définies spécialement pour le Tribunal de Nuremberg, ces 40.000 fanatiques seraient condamnés comme membres d'organisations fascistes, mis en camps et lentement "désionisés" comme on a "dénazifié" des masses d'Allemands, après la guerre.

Iran -- US War planning moves up a gear

06/20/03: (AFI) The United States military are well advanced in planning their next strategic adventure in the Middle East, an invasion of Iran by late 2004. Whether Washington will attempt to defeat the larger, better armed and more highly motivated Iranian forces with the intention of occupying the entire country must be still very much in doubt however. It will probably finally depend on a number of factors some closely related to covert actions currently being developed within Iran and a successful use of international pressure on the Tehran regime over its weapons of mass destruction programs.
Central to Washington's intentions is the rising influence of the Pentagons Office of Special Plans, or 'Rumsfelds private intelligence service' according to one disgruntled former CIA officer who spoke to AFI Research last week. This has been accompanied by a distinct decline in the influence of both the CIA and the DIA on US foreign policy in the build up to the war on Iraq. In a return to the tactics of Frank Wisner's OPC in the early 1950's, the United States is embarking on a wide range of destabilizing operations promulgated by the OSP and ranging from the widespread use of industrial sabotage; well targeted assassinations to subversion and instigating civil disturbance particularly by students.
Special Forces once again to play a leading role
Further signs of an impending conflict with Iran can be seen in the orders given to both the US and British Special forces to be prepared for large scale action within 12 months. The planning chiefs are fully aware that any campaign in Iran will be very different from Iraq, for not only is the country itself much larger with far more difficult terrain over most of its territory, but also far more effective opposition can be expected from most of the regular armed forces and the fanatical forces of the Pasdaran or Islamic Republican Guard. Special Forces allied to the promotion of internal opposition, wide scale clandestine and psychological warfare along with massive external pressures will undoubtedly be used for many months before any actual conventional military invasion.
Indeed the signs are that the covert war to undermine the Tehran regime is already well under way.Propaganda and disinformation campaigns are also beginning to take shape with repeated and very vocal condemnation of Iran's WMD and missile programs; its links with North Korea and its open support for terrorism and its Hezbollah allies. Iran's suspected links to many of the terrorist outrages of the last twenty years and the purported growing evidence that Al Qa'ida have been quietly given considerable assistance by both the Pasdaran and the Iranian Intelligence agency, SAVAMA will no doubt be used in an even more extravagant fashion than the endless series of unimpressive documents and dossiers on Iraq which flowed out of Washington and Downing Street in the last year or so.

Covert CIA teams operating in Iran
The United States, through the activities of the numerous CIA teams already operating in Iran alongside anti-Government elements is attempting to build bridges with dissident elements within the Iranian army, police and administration. There is some reason to believe that the Americans have already achieved some measurable success in undermining the regimes trust in its senior officer corps. However, Washington is already well aware that it might be wise to have obtained a far greater degree of international consensus before launching another war in an already fragile region and far greater efforts can be expected to win over both the United Nations and the main Western European countries particularly as Russia may not take kindly to yet more US bases ringing its southern borders and China is distinctly disturbed at Washington's growing influence and power in South Asia. However Pakistan may, according to normally well informed Indian sources, have already offered its territory for an eventual US military campaign.President Musharraf apparently now feels that only whole hearted support for Washington may be enough to save him from a gathering Islamic backlash.
However it remains to be seen whether this will eventually lead to a full scale US assault or perhaps only to the seizure of the main Iranian oil fields close to the border with occupied Iraq and perhaps the heavily militarized coastal area which Iran uses to threaten the main tanker routes out of the Gulf through the Straits of Hormuz. This Washington may eventually decide will prove sufficient, allied to massive covert operations, to overthrow the regime in Tehran without recourse to another major military campaign. However the United States is keeping all its options open and is likely to quickly build an impressive military infrastructure in Iraq, expand its facilities in many of the Gulf States,as well as in Pakistan, Afghanistan and increasingly in a number of the former Soviet Central Asian states.

Will the mighty dollar be the final arbiter of victory?
Whether, the mass of American and British people will quite so easily swallow the political 'spin' and accept the case for action against the Mullahs in Tehran that will be put to them once again by Bush and Blair, may be less certain. The International community is also even more likely to cast doubt on Washington's 'evidence' this time, unless of course the lure of the US dollar proves as strong as ever at the crucial moment. After all, the United States recent widespread use of secret monetary diplomacy simply seemed to confirm the old adage that every man does indeed have his price and that nations merely cost more to buy!

EST-IL PERMIS D'ETRE ANTISÉMITE ?

C'est le gros titre du numéro de mai 2003 de L'Arche - le mensuel du judaïsme français. Il est intéressant de savoir ainsi ce qu'autorisent les représentants (non-qualifiés) du judaïsme français en matière de critique de leurs actions, de leur comportement et surtout de leur solidarité avec l'entreprise génocidaire qui ravage la Palestine, sous le nom de sionisme. Pour répondre à cette question, les penseurs de l'Arche ne se sont pas foulés. Ils reproduisent les cogitations de deux plumitifs hollandais, sans dire évidemment qu'ils sont juifs eux-mêmes, Eric Krebbers et Jan Tas. Il s'agit d'une série de recommandations, accompagnées de commentaires explicatifs, qui montrent, d'après L'Arche, «qu'il est possible, si on le veut, de critiquer la politique de l'Etat d'Israël sans verser dans l'antisémitisme. Nos lecteurs pourront comparer les recommandations données dans cet article aux militants néerlandais, et les pratiques des partis et organisations politiques en France» (traduction: Yves Coleman). Attention: il ne s'agit ni d'une plaisaterie ni d'une parodie. Ce texte est endossé par l'Arche.

1. Lorsque vous attaquez la politique du gouvernement israélien, critiquez toujours les fondamentalistes musulmans. Ne cherchez jamais à justifier les attentats-suicides.
2. Critiquez l'antisionisme.
3. N'utilisez pas n'importe comment le terme de génocide. Ne prétendez pas qu'Israël est l'Etat qui respecte le moins les droits de l'homme sur cette planète.
4. Ne comparez jamais Israël à l'Allemagne nazie.
5. Ne rendez pas "les Juifs" responsables des actions de l'Etat israélien.
6. N'utilisez jamais de stéréotypes aux résonnances antisémites.
7. Dénoncez le mythe d'un complot pro-israélien.
8. Israël n'est pas un Etat plus -- ou moins -- "aberrant" que les autres.
9. Ne remettez pas en cause le droit à l'existence d'Israël.
10. Ne rendez jamais Israël responsable de l'antisémitisme.

LE NOUVEAU MUR DE LA HONTE

Chères amies, chers amis,
1) Nous attirons votre attention sur un article du journaliste israélien Ran Ha-Cohen, concernant le mur d'encerclement qui est en train d'être construit par le gouvernement israélien et qui en dit long sur les intentions de celui-ci concernant le futur "Etat Palestinien". Le tracé de ce mur a été tenu secret jusqu'ici, et les tenants de la "feuille de route" se gardent d'en parler. Voici donc quelques extraits qui s'appuient sur des rapports d'organisations de défense des droits de l'homme palestiniennes et israéliennes (cf l'article du 5 juin sur notre site). Comme le montre la carte (mise sur notre site dans la section "documents de référence"), Israël s'emploie à annexer plus de la moitié de la déjà minuscule Cisjordanie, pour ne laisser subsister que deux poches complètement encerclées de murailles, lesquelles continueraient en outre de subir la présence de colonies juives, dans les régions de Naplouse et Hébron en particulier. En chiffres, les bantoustans palestiniens envisagés par Sharon couvriraient moins, voire nettement moins de 10% de la Palestine Mandataire, au lieu des 22% (bande de Gaza, Cisjordanie, Jérusalem-Est) correspondant aux frontières de juin 1967.

"Une des fonctions centrales de la "Feuille de route", écrit Ran Ha Cohen, est de détourner l'attention de la carte réelle des Territoires palestiniens: cette carte-là est en cours d'altération radicale, et contrairement à la feuille de route, qui sera oubliée tout comme ses prédécesseurs cyniques (le "plan Zinni", le "plan Tenet", le "rapport Mitchell", la "Conférence de paix régionale", etc.), la carte géographique de la Palestine est destinée à subsister, traversée en plein milieu par un haut mur aujourd'hui en cours de construction - "Barrière de Défense" dans la terminologie officielle d'Israël, mais à vrai dire Mur de l'Apartheid. Du fait que, contrairement à la junte qui les gouverne, la plupart des Israéliens souhaitent mettre fin à l'occupation, l'engouement pour le mur est écrasant. La plupart des Israéliens croient qu'il apportera la sécurité et constituera en définitive la frontière entre Israël et un état palestinien. Quant aux millionnaires d'Israël, ils ont une raison particulière de se réjouir, comme l'a révélé le quotidien Yedioth Aharonoth (22 novembre 2002): des centaines d'oliviers palestiniens, qui se trouvaient sur le tracé de la barrière, sont en train d'être déracinés par les constructeurs, transportés en contrebande et vendus pour orner les jardins de riches Israéliens (les prix vont jusqu'à 5.000 $ pour un arbre ancien). Les propriétaires palestiniens qui osent demander compensation, pour ce qui constituait souvent leur seule source de revenus, se voient déboutés à force de menaces et de coups.

Le Mur s'enfonce profondément dans les Territoires palestiniens, de manière à leur dérober autant de terres et d'eau que possible. Un bon exemple est le petit village de Mas'ha, où un groupe de militants palestiniens, israéliens et étrangers a installé un camp pour s'efforcer d'attirer l'attention sur l'atrocité en cours de réalisation et de la combattre. (...) Ce n'est pas seulement le désir de s'emparer de surfaces agricoles qui a mené les bulldozers sur le territoire de Mas'ha. Ces terres se situent dans la partie occidentale du vaste réservoir d'eau douce qui naît en Cisjordanie et dont les eaux courent sous le sol jusqu'au centre du territoire israélien. Des 600 millions de mètres cubes d'eau que fournit chaque année ce réservoir, Israël prélève quelque 500 millions de mètres cubes. Le contrôle des sources d'eau a toujours été l'un des mobiles centraux du maintien de l'occupation israélienne. Les premières colonies, comme Elkana, étaient situées dans des zones d'intérêt vital pour le creusement de puits artésiens. Depuis 1967, Israël interdit aux Palestiniens de creuser de nouveaux puits, mais sur les terres de Mas'ha il y en a encore de plus anciens, nombreux et en état de fonctionnement. En isolant le village de ses puits, Israël s'efforce à la fois de contrôler les réserves d'eau et de tarir les sources de vie du village, pour forcer les résidents à s'en aller. (...)

Il ne s'agit pas d'une clôture temporaire: bien au contraire, c'est une barrière formidable, qui crée sur le terrain une nouvelle réalité physique durable et qui est destinée à rester là pendant des décennies. Elle se contorsionne comme un serpent autour des collines cultivées, enserrant le village sur trois côtés, à quelques pas à peine des dernières maisons. Et Mas'ha, loin d'être unique, n'est qu'un exemple parmi d'autres. Des 12.500 dunams (un dunam = 1.000 mètres carrés, soit un dixième d'hectare) que possède le village de Jius, 600 sont en cours de confiscation pour permettre la construction de 6 kilomètres de mur, et 8.600 vont se retrouver du côté israélien. Ses 550 familles, dont la moitié travaillait en Israël quand c'était encore possible, mais avait dû se rabattre depuis sur l'agriculture, perdent maintenant leur dernière source de revenus (Gideon Levy, Ha'aretz, 2 mai 2003).

On comprend maintenant pourquoi la junte refuse de fournir des informations à propos du tracé du mur, ainsi que la B'Tselem Newsletter le raconte en détail. La Ligne Verte fait quelque 350 kilomètres de long: les rapports actuels font état d'un mur de quelque 600 kilomètres, rien que du côté occidental de la Cisjordanie. Rien que du côté occidental? Oui, parce que, comme Ha'aretz ne l'a mentionné qu'une seule fois, comme en passant et sans aucun détail, (le 23 mars 2003), un autre mur est prévu du côté oriental. Cette information cruciale échappe largement à l'attention publique. La plupart des Israéliens croient que la barrière est construite le long de la Ligne Verte, et ils ne soupçonnent même pas qu'un autre mur doit compléter par derrière l'encerclement des Palestiniens. (...) La résolution des Nations Unies de 1947 avait alloué 45% de la Palestine sous mandat britannique à l'établissement d'un état palestinien. En 1948, Israël avait occupé 78% des Territoires, n'en laissant que 22% à peine -- la Cisjordanie et Gaza -- aux Palestiniens. Depuis 1993, tout ce que demandent ces derniers se réduit à cette portion. Mais désormais Israël veut leur dérober plus de la moitié des 22% restants. Six millions d'Israéliens sont en train de se partager quelque 90% des terres (et de l'eau), tandis que trois millions et demi de Palestiniens, parmi lesquels de nombreux réfugiés, sont contraints à crever la misère dans ce qui leur reste, bouclés dans des prisons à l'air libre derrière des murs gigantesques, sans terres, sans eau et sans espoir. Sans conteste, il s'agit là d'une façon très morale d'avancer vers la paix, l'entente et la sécurité.

Le Mur de l'Apartheid fera 8 mètres de haut, et sans doute 1.000 km de long (à titre de comparaison, le Mur de Berlin ne faisait que pâle figure, avec 155 km de longueur et 3,6 m de haut). Garder le silence en face de ce projet gigantesque et de ses implications génocidaires, destinées à prévenir toute possibilité future de solution équitable (sans même parler de la "Feuille de route") constitue un crime moral dont les médias occidentaux se rendent coupables, sans exception ou presque.

UNE JOURNÉE QUELCONQUE A GAZA

Vendredi 23 ­ 02h00- Appuyé par des blindés et 3 bulldozers, l'occupant pénètre à 300m au nord de la route des colons Netzarim-Al Mentar. Il y reste jusqu'au dimanche après midi. 10 hectares d'oliviers et 15 hectares de citronniers sont totalement défoncés, et avec eux tout le système d'irrigation. Les hangars abritant matériel et produits agricoles sont démolis. Un bâtiment administratif est détruit. Un mur en ciment de 200m de long sur 6m de haut, protégeant une usine, est mis à plat. Un générateur, les pompes d'alimentation pour l'irrigation sont saccagés, les réserves d'eau à ciel ouvert défoncés par les bulldozers. 2 usines de Beit Hanoun employant une vingtaine de salariés à la fabrication de matériaux de construction, sont détruites.

Origines de la "mentalité victimaire"

Sont des victimes les personnes qui se voient dans la situation de souffrir bien qu'étant totalement innocentes (tout au moins, à leurs propres yeux, et dans le cadre de la vision du monde qui est propre à leur personne ou à leur communauté). Je vais m'efforcer de montrer que la "mentalité victimaire" est fortement liée au déni de la Raison. Dans bien des cas, le déni de la Raison est totalement compréhensible. Ainsi, par exemple, une femme violée avec violences physiques peut très bien trouver sans aucun intérêt les difficultés personnelles qui ont pu amener l'agresseur sexuel à s'imposer à elle par la violence. En tant que victime, elle peut être préparée délibérément à repousser la Raison et à se concentrer uniquement sur ses blessures émotionnelles et physiques. C'est parfaitement compréhensible. Suivant le même modèle de pensée, une famille ayant perdu un fils chéri, écrasé par un chauffeur de camion ivre, peut très bien ne pas estimer d'une importance cruciale de connaître les difficultés personnelles du chauffard et la Raison qui l'ont poussé à s'adonner aux excès de boissons alcoolisées. Il est naturel, pour des victimes, de se détacher des événements et de la Raison mêmes qui ont bouleversé le cours de leur vie. Toutefois, ces occurrences n'établissent pas une "mentalité victimaire", mais bien plutôt un type psychologique normal de dépression. La "mentalité victimaire" est une définition politique qui fait référence à quelque chose de bien plus général. Elle fait référence à des groupes qui font leur un rejet total de la Raison. Nous pouvons trouver de légères traces de "mentalité victimaire" parmi des groupes politiques marginaux tels les "mouvements féministes" et les "groupes politiques homosexuels". Encore une fois, c'est là quelque chose de compréhensible, en raison des discriminations qui s'exercent à l'encontre de groupes de cette nature. Il est beaucoup plus intéressant de trouver des occurrences claires de la "mentalité victimaire" au sein du noyau même des groupes exerçant leur domination sur la marche du monde. Je fais ici référence aux lobbies sionistes et à l'administration américaine actuelle. Ces groupes hégémoniques considèrent les crimes perpétrés contre eux comme assez graves pour justifier leur rejet total de la Raison.
La "victimitude" adoptée par les sionistes est unique dans l'Histoire. Le peuple juif a souffert, c'est incontestable, des horreurs les plus dévastatrices imaginables, au cours de leur histoire ancestrale. L'Holocauste est sans doute l'un des chapitres les plus horribles jamais enregistrés par l'Histoire humaine. Mais nous devons aussi nous souvenir du fait que les sionistes ont été plus qu'intelligents en se servant de cet épisode désastreux à la manière d'un catalyseur pour la libération. L'Holocauste a aidé les sionistes à amener les Nations unies à présenter la résolution de partage de la Palestine (en 1947), qui allait aboutir un peu plus tard à la proclamation de l'Etat d'Israël (en 1948). Sur le plan financier, les juifs reçurent des compensations du gouvernement allemand dès la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. Bien que les juifs eussent des raisons irréfutables de se considérer comme des victimes, ils n'en ont plus. Aujourd'hui, ils ont un Etat, une armée puissante et suffisamment d'ogive nucléaires pour vitrifier l'ensemble de la planète. De manière assez amusante, les Israéliens et les juifs, dans le monde entier, continuent à se voir en victimes. Bien plus, Israël, fondé dans l'ombre de l'Holocauste, a fait de la "mentalité victimaire" une industrie de pointe dans les domaines tant du tourisme que de la diplomatie. Le moyen, pour lui, de parvenir à une assomption totale de la "mentalité victimaire" fut un déni sans faille de la Raison, un rejet complet de la Raison même qui avait conduit à l'Holocauste, dès l'abord. J'aurais tendance à affirmer que faire face à la véritable Raison aiderait grandement les sionistes à comprendre la raison pour laquelle ils ne bénéficient plus, aujourd'hui, de la moindre popularité.
Tout en admettant que les juifs avaient de bonnes raisons de se considérer comme des victimes à un moment donné, il n'en est pas moins possible d'avancer l'idée que les sionistes auraient pu être les premiers à rechercher les raisons qui avaient conduit à leur propre destruction. Ils auraient pu étudier les accusations de l'extrême-droite européenne au sujet de leur domination des secteurs banquier et financier. Ils auraient pu étudier les préoccupations bourgeoises et capitalistes au sujet de l'implication des juifs dans les mouvements prolétariens révolutionnaires et anarchistes, étudier le rejet xénophobe des juifs de l'Est, et ils auraient même pu analyser les allégations nazies selon lesquelles ils complotaient en vue de la prise de contrôle mondiale au moyen d' "abstractions" (le marxime, la psychanalyse et même la théorie de la relativité et le catholicisme!). Qu'elles aient été recevables ou non, les Israéliens et les sionistes n'ont jamais esquissé la moindre réplique à ces accusations. Bien au contraire, ils les ont rejetées en bloc en les qualifiant de "délire antisémite". Ce faisant, ils établissaient une notion de justice fondée sur leur seul jugement intuitif éthique propre.
Pour les Israéliens, le recours à la Raison n'est valable que dans la mesure où elle est susceptible de soutenir leur seule et unique intuition, à savoir celle selon laquelle les juifs ont le droit de vivre à Sion quelles qu'en soient les conséquences. Cette forme d'ignorance rend les Israéliens et les sionistes tout à fait incapables de prendre conscience de leur propre réalité. Bien plus, c'est parce que les Israéliens ne sont plus formés au processus consistant à faire la synthèse entre la Raison et le jugement éthique que leur capacité à établir des arguments solides est extrêmement réduite. Cela peut sembler comique (ou très triste), mais très nombreux sont désormais les Israéliens à ne plus faire aucun distinguo entre les criminels de guerre nazis et les civils palestiniens innocents. Bien des Israéliens et des sionistes vont même encore plus loin et ont tendance à voir dans l'ensemble du monde gentil un ennemi vicieux et impitoyable. Si le "monde gentil" (les goyim) signifie "la race humaine", alors nous devons accepter la triste réalité: de nombreux juifs considèrent qu'ils mènent une guerre contre la race humain tout entière (ceci pourrait expliquer la taille énorme de l'arsenal nucléaire israélien). En général, toute condamnation diplomatique de la politique israélienne est perçue par le peuple israélien comme une insulte antisémite. A la suite des élections israéliennes, et la montée attendue de la droite, il est désormais clair que la vaste majorité de la population israélienne juive soutient l'oppression du peuple palestinien, mais que cela ne l'empêche nullement de continuer à se voir en victime. J'ai tendance à lier cette mentalité bizarre -- consistant à être l'oppresseur tout en continuant à se prétendre, simultanément, la victime -- à la détérioration, très claire, du recours à la Raison, en Israël. Je suppose que l'abus, par les juifs, de leur mémoire holocaustique, en est responsable. L'astronaute israélien Ilan Ramon, qui trouva la mort dans la catastrophe de la désintégration en vol de la navette Columbia, était très fier d'emporter avec lui dans l'espace des symboles des victimes et des souvenirs de l'Holocauste. En apprenant par la presse que l'expédition Columbia était une mission purement scientifique, je ne pus m'empêcher de me demander si la mission scientifique de Ramon consistait à diffuser la mentalité victimaire dans l'espace circumterrestre ? Quoi qu'il en soit, moins d'une heure après l'accident, Sharon annonçait que Ramon était "une victime de la science". Le doute n'est plus permis: la notion de victime est une ressource terminologique inépuisable chez les sionistes convaincus.
Le cas de l'Amérique post-attentats est très similaire. L'administration américaine, à l'instar des juifs post-holocaustiques, a fait sienne une mentalité victimaire qui lui permet de formuler des jugement intuitifs sans chercher à les étayer par une quelconque argumentation rationnelle. Ainsi, en ce moment, l'Amérique est en train de bombarder tout ce qui n'est pas d'accord avec elle. Quiconque n'acquiesce pas à la politique américaine est "anti-américain". "Soit vous êtes avec nous, soit vous êtes contre nous", a dit le président des Etats-Unis, plagiant l'"intuition" sioniste, qui consiste à dire: "Soit vous soutenez Israël, soit vous êtes antisémite". Cette forme de comportement américain est basée sur une affirmation de son bon droit qui est typique de gens qui se con,stituent en victimes, c'est-à-dire de gens qui dénient la Raison.
La question -- cruciale -- à poser sans attendre est celle de savoir si nous pouvons faire quelque chose à ce sujet ? Pouvons-nous aider les sionistes et les Américains à échapper à cette précipitation dans l'impasse ? La réponse est non. Non, nous ne pouvons rien faire. Nous sommes en train d'assister à la naissance d'une nouvelle tragédie. Nous ne pouvons aider ni les Israéliens ni l'administration américaine, car les uns comme les autres sont pris en otages par leur propre "mentalité victimaire". Malheureusement, nous devons laisser les Israéliens se détruire eux-mêmes, et c'est un sport dans lequel ils excellent. La seule chose que nous puissions faire, c'est prier en demandant à Dieu que la présidence de Bush prenne fin avant qu'il n'ait eu le temps de détruire notre planète. Pourquoi ne sommes-nous pas en mesure de les aider ? Parce que tant les Américains que les Israéliens ont été pris en otages par eux-mêmes. Lorsque vous êtes fait prisonnier par l'Autre, vous pouvez éventuellement vous libérer. Mais lorsque vous êtes votre propre geôlier, vous risquez fort de vous trouver définitivement enfermé derrière vos propres barreaux.

La seule question restant sans réponse est celle de savoir ce que Tony Blair devrait faire, placé comme il l'est entre ces deux faucons fanatiques dépourvus de toute morale. Après tout, il est le chef du parti travailliste. C'est horrible à admettre, mais pour le moment, seule une attaque terroriste massive contre le Royaume-Uni serait en mesure d'aider à sauver la carrière politique de Blair, qui est en train de couler. Notre Premier ministre est déjà entre les mains de Ben Laden. Le peuple britannique peut le sauver. S'il est encore en mesure de le faire, uniquement parce qu'il n'est pas encore transformé en victimes.

June 5, 1982 Israel air bombardment on Lebanon and followed 6 June by land, air and sea invasion of Lebanon. By 30 June alone, more than 15,000 civilian are killed, 50% of them children under the age of 13.

June 5, 1967 Al Naksa: Israel carries out a devastating offensive and starts the so-called six-day war, occupying Gaza, the West Bank (including East Jerusalem and teh old city), Sinai, and the Golan Heights. The occupation of all but the Sinai continues in defiance of International law and countless UN resolutions. This was a war of conquest, nothing more and nothing less. Moshe Dayan, Israeli Defense Minister during the 1967 war, admitted in a 1976 interview (not published until 1997) that prior to 1967, Israel deliberately provoked Syria because settlers wanted a pretext to seize the land. Dayan revealed that "Eighty percent of the incidents worked like this: We would send tractors to plow in an area of little use, in a demilitarized zone, knowing ahead of time that the Syrians would shoot. If they didn't start shooting, we would tell the tractors to advance until the Syrians would get aggravated and start shooting. We used artillery and later the air force became involved." Dayan recalled that during the war, settlers from the north lobbied the Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, to convince him to seize the land for their use. "They didn't even try to hide their lust for that soil. That's what guided them" Dayan said.
Israeli General Matityahu Peled similarly stated: "The thesis that the danger of genocide was hanging over us in June 1967 and that Israel was fighting for its physical existence is only bluff, which was born and developed after the war" (Ha'aretz, 19 March 1972). General Peled also stated "To pretend that the Egyptian forces massed on our frontiers were in a position to threaten the existence of Israel constitutes an insult not only to the intelligence of anyone capable of analyzing this sort of situation, but above all an insult to the Zahal [Israeli army]" (General Matityahu Peled, Ha'aretz, 19 March 1972). Yitzhak Rabin himself stated: "I do not think Nasser wanted war. The two divisions he sent to the Sinai on May 14 would not have been sufficient to launch an offensive against Israel. He knew it and we knew it" (Le Monde, 29 February 1968).

"I agree that it's bad," the rabbi responded, "and the solution for this problem is provided in the Torah: Whoever loves us, and believes in our right to this land, can live here, and then will not feel that he is under conquest. Whoever doesn't recognize our rights, shouldn't live here. This is the solution."
Arutz-7: "But the Prime Minister could say that he might even agree with you, but that we presently don't have the strength to impose that solution -- such that the bottom line is that they are under our occupation."
Rabbi Melamed: "True, it's not easy -- but every long trip begins with the first few steps: by declaring that these our intentions, and by taking strong measures against terrorist families, and proceeding from there, step by step... It [appears] that the only way to solve the problems here is by Arab emigration, such as happened [with transfers of population] in World War II. Most of the Arabs in Yesha do not want to live in peace with us, so we have to continually remind the world that in Saudi Arabia, for example, there is plenty of oil and plenty of space, and that there is no reason that they should not help out their poor brothers... Israel should also offer to help in these efforts... I simply do not see any other solution to this problem. To give a state to the Palestinians is simply pushing off the war for another few months, and then it will just be harder for us."

4 juin 2003. Les colonies sauvages israéliennes en Cisjordanie

Des colons israéliens ont érigé depuis 1996 plus de cent points de colonisation sauvage en Cisjordanie, qui, dans la plupart des cas, sont habitées par quelques familles isolées ou vides d'habitants. En acceptant le 25 mai la "feuille de route", un nouveau plan de paix international, Israël s'est en principe engagé à démanteler "immédiatement" les points de colonisation établis depuis mars 2001 et à geler la construction dans les quelque 160 colonies des Territoires. Les colonies sauvages sont appelées ainsi dans la mesure où elles ont été érigées à l'initiative de colons, sans l'accord préalable des autorités occupantes israéliennes. Mais la plupart d'entre elles ont obtenu leur aval par la suite. Il n'y a pas de décompte officiel de ces implantations, d'autant que les chiffres peuvent varier de jour en jour. Le mouvement israélien La Paix Maintenant, opposé à la colonisation, publie toutefois régulièrement des études détaillées, considérées comme fiables. Selon une étude publiée cette semaine, il y a à l'heure actuelle 116 points de colonisation sauvage, dont 86 sont habités. Sur les 30 autres, qui sont vides, 16 n'ont jamais été habitées. Dans le cas des 14 autres, leurs habitants ont été évacués par l'armée en 2002 sur ordre du ministre de la Défense de l'époque, le travailliste Binyamin Ben Eliezer. De 62 à 64, soit plus de la moitié, ont été érigées depuis l'arrivée au pouvoir du Premier ministre Ariel Sharon, en mars 2001. En ce qui concerne les autres, 35 ont été érigées entre 1996 et 1999, sous le gouvernement de droite de Benjamin Netanyahu, dont une vingtaine fin 1998-début 1999. C'est l'époque où M. Sharon, alors ministre des Affaires étrangères, appelait les colons à "s'emparer des collines" de Cisjordanie pour créer des faits accomplis irréversibles et limiter le plus possible les zones autonomes palestiniennes. Vingt-deux autres points de colonisation ont été installés entre 1999 et février 2001, sous le gouvernement du travailliste Ehud Barak. Le total est très légèrement supérieur à 116, car certaines ont été démantelées. Certaines implantations sont présentées comme des "fermes", d'autres comme des lieux établis en hommage à des Israéliens tués dans des embuscades palestiniennes, d'autres enfin comme de simples quartiers de colonies existantes, bien que souvent distantes de la colonie mère de plus d'un kilomètre. Le vice-ministre de la Défense, Zeev Boim, a affirmé lundi que le gouvernement envisageait de démanteler "tout au plus" dix colonies sauvages. "La question d'un démantèlement ne se pose que pour les points d'implantation clairement illégaux et il ne dépassent pas le nombre de dix", a-t-il dit. A Aqaba, un porte-parole du ministère israélien des Affaires étrangères, Jonatan Peled, a toutefois indiqué à la presse mercredi qu'Israël pourrait démanteler jusqu'à 24 colonies sauvages "dans les prochaines semaines". Quelque 220.000 colons sont installés dans environ 160 colonies en Cisjordanie et dans la bande de Gaza, sans compter les 200.000 Israéliens qui vivent dans 12 quartiers de colonisation érigés à Jérusalem-Est, conquise et annexée en juin 1967 par Israël. Aux yeux de la communauté internationale, toutes les colonies, sauvages ou non, sont illégales, car construites en territoire occupé.

Le gouvernement israélien s'est réuni aujourd'hui pour débattre des restrictions budgétaires d'un demi-milliard de shekels prévues dans le budget du ministère de la Défense. Aucune décision n'a été prise mais les débats devraient se poursuivre dans les semaines à venir. Le chef d'état-major, Moshé Yaalon, a déclaré lors du conseil des ministres que de nouvelles restrictions seraient fatales pour l'armée qui ne pourra plus faire face aux exigences sécuritaires de l'Etat: "C'est comme si on arrêtait de fournir en essence le porte-avions Tsahal". Le ministre de la Défense a déclaré qu'il ne savait pas comment réduire le budget Sécurité de 3% en 2003 et de 2% en 2004. Selon le directeur du ministère, Amos Yaron, les industries militaires se verront forcées de fermer leurs portes si leur budget était encore révisé à la baisse.

As the Pentagon finalizes plans for military trials of the terror suspects held at Guantanamo Bay, some legal experts are voicing doubts that justice will be done.
Donald Rehkopf, co-chair of the military committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, called the planned military commissions "an embarrassment to democracy." "This is a show. It's a kangaroo court of the worst sort," he said, describing the rules as crafted to guarantee convictions, compel guilty pleas and make it as easy as possible to get the death penalty. "I was actually shocked at how one-sided these rules were," said Michael Ratner, president of the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights. "Even a military tribunal I don't think has to be this biased and unfair toward the defendant."
The Defense Department this month issued instructions for conducting the trials and last week named Army Col. Frederic Borch as the head prosecutor and Air Force Col. Will Gunn as the lead defense counsel. Officials also began soliciting applications from civilian attorneys interested in defending suspects alongside a military defense lawyer assigned by the Pentagon. Critics are fuming over restrictions placed on defense lawyers, the admissibility of hearsay and other evidence barred in U.S. civilian courts, and an appeals process that allows Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and President Bush to decide whether a defendant was rightly convicted. "We have been very careful in this process to do everything to guarantee a full and fair trial," Borch countered. "I don't think there's anything particular about the military commissions that's any different from any other prosecution." Gunn said, "I am firmly convinced that we are going to be able to operate in such a manner that we're going to be able to provide a zealous defense for all detainees brought before trial."

The next step
The next key step is for Bush to designate which prisoners at the U.S. naval base in Cuba come under the jurisdiction of the commissions. The Pentagon then would bring charges. In November 2001, Bush issued an order authorizing the use of military commissions to try foreigners who were members of the al Qaeda network or engaged in "acts of international terrorism." The order came about a month after Bush launched the war in Afghanistan aimed at crushing al Qaeda, blamed for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America.
The United States is holding roughly 675 prisoners from dozens of countries without charge or access to lawyers in Guantanamo Bay. They are classified as "unlawful combatants," thus denying them rights accorded to prisoners of war under international treaties. Officials involved in the process last week traveled to Guantanamo, where the trials are set to be held.
Under the rules, defendants are assigned a military lawyer. A defendant can hire a civilian defense lawyer as long as the government does not have to pay. This civilian lawyer must be a U.S. citizen, must be deemed eligible to hear classified information, and must accept conditions set by the Pentagon. Defense lawyers, for example, must agree to allow the Pentagon to monitor conversations with defendants, essentially waiving the customary attorney-client privilege. The Pentagon can bar civilian defense lawyers from certain closed proceedings. It prohibits the common practice of developing joint defense tactics with lawyers for other defendants. There is no provision for a defense lawyer to contest whether a military commission has the jurisdiction to bring his client to trial.
"The concept of a defense counsel is absolutely meaningless," Rehkopf said. "No defense attorney could ever agree to those conditions without losing your law license." Ratner said the trial instructions do not set out guidelines on sentences, including the death penalty, "It seems completely arbitrary," he said. "It seems to be up to the military tribunal to give whatever sentence they want."

Justice Dept. Report Faults Post-9/11 Detention Practice

Hundreds of terrorism suspects detained after the Sept. 11 attacks were denied basic legal rights and some were subjected to "a pattern of physical and verbal abuse" by guards at a federal prison in Brooklyn, according to Justice Department oversight report issued today. The 198-page report by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine is the most thorough accounting of the government's handling of 762 immigrants -- most of Arab and South Asian descent -- taken into custody as terrorism suspects following the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The investigation focused primarily on the fate of detainees held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and the Passaic (N.J.) County Jail, and it was triggered by reports of widespread civil rights violations at both facilities.
According to the report, the Justice Department issued a "no bond" policy for all detainees held in connection with the Sept. 11 investigation. The policy continued, the report said, even after INS officials raised questions about its legality. The Justice Department also refused to release any Sept. 11 detainee who had not been cleared by the FBI as a terrorism suspect, the report said. The investigation found that the process suffered serious delays, causing detainees to be held for months, often in maximum security conditions, even after they had been cleared. At the Metropolitan Detention Center, a federal facility run by the Bureau of Prisons, 84 detainees were subjected to "unduly harsh" conditions, including constantly illuminated cells that made it difficult to sleep, according to the oversight report. The investigation confirmed reports that guards roughed up some detainees.
Prosecutors declined to press criminal charges, citing lack of evidence, according to the report. However, the report said Metropolitan Detention Center officials destroyed videotapes that might have provided that evidence and were continuing to investigate for possible administrative sanctions.

Detainee death chamber studied

Plans for an execution chamber at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba are being studied by the U.S. military as it prepares to bring suspected al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorists to trial later this year. A Pentagon spokeswoman said Thursday that the base's prison commander is discussing whether to include the death chamber in possible plans for a permanent prison.
However, Lt. Cmdr. Barbara Burfeind stressed that the proposals being put together by Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller still have to be submitted to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and President Bush. About 680 people captured during the war in Afghanistan are being held at the base in the makeshift prison known as Camp Delta. Burfeind said Miller was being prudent in planning for all the elements that military tribunals could bring -- including long-term prison sentences or even death penalties -- once they start. The trials could start later this year.
At Guantanamo, prison-camp spokesman Lt. Col. Barry Johnson said authorities have started preparations for the trials. Several old offices at the base are being spruced up for use as courtrooms, and base commanders are discussing a permanent facility to house prisoners for years. In addition, Johnson said, the base command has discussed building a death-row facility and a chamber for execution by lethal injection.

Le secrétaire d'État aux Affaires étrangères Mike O'Brien a déclaré mardi 10 juin au Parlement britannique que le gouvernement de Londres avait demandé aux USA de résoudre "la situation anormale" à laquelle font face les détenus de Guantanamo, dont 9 sont des citoyens britanniques. Il a déclaré : « Nous avons indiqué très clairement que nous nous attendons à ce que les normes internationales soient appliquées à la manière dont des individus sont détenus, en particulier lorsqu'il s'agit de ressortissants britanniques. Nous avons aussi indiqué clairement que cette affaire a traîné trop longtemps et qu'il est temps que les USA trouvent les voies pour parvenir à une conclusion et à une solution de la situation anormale à laquelle sont confrontés les détenus de Guantanamo. »

10/06/03 - Le père de David Hicks s'enferme dans une cage
Terry Hicks, le père de David Hicks, l'un des 2 Australiens enfermés à Guantanamo, s'est enfermé dimanche 8 juin dans une cage semblable à celles du Camp X-Ray devant le centre des Congrès d'Adelaide, où se tenait une convention du parti libéral au pouvoir. Le Premier ministre John Howard a donc pénétré dans la salle de congrès par une porte dérobée. Terry Hicks a déclaré que le gouvernement australien s'était lavé les mains du sort de son fils: «On se congne la tête contre un mur de briques, personne ne veut nous parler. Ça pourrait continuer comme ça pendant encore 5 ans. David est un citoyen australien. Le gouvernement est très rapide quand il s'agit de venir en aide à des trafiquants de drogue ou tout autre détenu australien à l'étranger, mais dans la cas de David, rien n'est fait. Le gouvernement australien n'est pas assez fort pour pousser sur ce point.»

10/06/03 - Les Nations unies condamnent les USA
Le groupe de travail sur la détention arbitraire des Nations Unies a condamné dans une décision rendue le 8 mai dernier la situation des détenus sur la base militaire américaine de Guantanamo (Cuba) qu'il juge "contraire au droit international", a révélé mercredi 4 juin le barreau de Paris dans un communiqué.
Le 12 décembre dernier, le bâtonnier de Paris, Me Paul-Albert Iweins, s'était commis d'office pour défendre trois des six ressortissants Français détenus à Guantanamo parce qu'ils sont soupçonnés d'avoir collaboré avec Al-Qaïda.
Huit jours plus tard, il a saisi le Haut-Commissariat des droits de l'homme de l'ONU pour solliciter son avis sur cette détention.
Le groupe d'experts a considéré dans sa décision que "la privation de liberté de Mourad Benchellali, Khaled Ben Mustafa, Nizar Sassi et Hamed Abderrahaman Ahmed (originaire de Ceuta et de nationalité espagnole) est arbitraire et viole l'article 9 de la Déclaration universelle des droits de l'homme et l'article 9 du Pacte international sur les droits civils et politiques dont les Etats-Unis sont signataires".
Cette décision qui a été "soumise au gouvernement des États-Unis, sans appeler de réponse de sa part", demande aux États-Unis de "prendre les mesures nécessaires pour remédier à la situation conformément aux standards et principes du droit international", précise le communiqué.
Nizar Sassi et Mourad Benchellali, tous deux habitants du quartier des Minguettes à Vénissieux dans la banlieue de Lyon, avaient été faits prisonniers par les forces US lors de la campagne d'Afghanistan durant l'hiver 2001-2002. Ils étaient alors âgés respectivement de 22 et 20 ans.
Au total six hommes de nationalité française figurent parmi les 680 prisonniers retenus dans la base militaire US. Pour éviter d'avoir à rendre des comptes à leur sujet, l'administration Bush a qualifié les détenus de Guantanamo de "combattants illégaux".
Ce procédé les prive du statut protégé de prisonniers de guerre ce qui les aurait fait dépendre de la IIIe Convention de Genève et d'autres conventions internationales. Le gouvernement US entend les faire juger par des tribunaux militaires d'exception pouvant décider de la peine de mort.

08/06/03 -- USA: plus de 13 000 Arabes et Musulmans menacés de déportation
Sur les 82.000 ressortissants de 25 pays arabes et musulmans âgés de plus de 16 ans qui ont du se faire enregistrer auprès des autorités US d'immigration de décembre 2002 à avril 2003, plus de 13 000 se sont avérés résider illégalement aux USA et sont maintenant menacés de déportation. Certains choisissent la clandestinité, d'autres sont partis au Canada ou ailleurs et d'autres enfin se tournent vers la justice pour faire valoir leur droit au séjour aux USA. Après le 11 septembre, une première vague d'expulsions avait frappé plus de 600 Arabes et Musulmans. mais après que le nombre d'immigrants arrêtés avait dépassé les 1200, le département de la Justice avait cessé de publier des chiffres. En 2002, une deuxième vague d'arrestations a frappé plus de 3 000 personnes, mais on ignore combien ont été expulsés. En tout, les expulsions de ressortissants de pays asiatiques et africains ont augmenté de 27% durant les 2 dernières années. le nombre de Pakistanais, Joradaniens, Libanais et marocains déportés a doublé, celui des Égyptiens déportés a triplé. Selon l'ambassade pakistanaise à Washington, plus de 15 000 Pakistanais résidant illégalement aux USA ont quitté le pays pour le Canada, l'Europe et le Pakistan. À Brooklyn, plus de 500 personnes ont demandé l'aide du Centre arabo-américain de soutien aux familles pour contester leur expulsion devant un tribunal. Certains ont des enfants de nationalité US ou des épouses citoyennes US ou détentrcies de cartes vertes. Selon la juriste du centre, seule une poignée ont des chances de gagner leur droit au séjour.

06/06/03 - Prochaine visite bosniaque
Les autorités de Bosnie-Herzégovine ont annoncé qu'elles avaient reçu le feu vert de l'ambassade US à Sarajevo pour envoyer un représentant à Guantanamo pour rencontrer les six citoyens bosniaques d'origine algérienne qui y sont enfermés. Ces mêmes autorités avaient livré les 6 hommes aux USA après qu'un tribunal bosniaque les eut acquittés des accusations de préparatifs d'attentats.

Affaire Moussaoui: la justice américaine inflige un camouflet à Washington

"Cet appel est d'une importance considérable. Il résulte d'un conflit direct entre le droit d'un criminel présumé de faire comparaître un témoin qui lui serait favorable et le devoir fondamental du gouvernement de préserver la sécurité de cette nation." Jeudi 26 juin, la Cour d'appel fédérale de Richmond (Virginie) a donné tort au département de la justice et raison à Zacarias Moussaoui.
Elle a autorisé le Français de 35 ans, seul accusé aux Etats-Unis pour avoir participé aux attentats du 11 septembre 2001, à interroger des prisonniers d'Al-Qaida, et notamment le yéménite Ramzi Ben Al-Shaiba. Quatre des six chefs d'inculpation retenus contre Zacarias Moussaoui sont passibles de la peine de mort.
Depuis des mois, le procès est bloqué. Sa date a été reportée à plusieurs reprises, et la juge fédérale Leonie Brinkema a tenté en vain de trouver une issue conciliant les droits de la défense et les impératifs de la guerre contre le terrorisme. Le gouvernement américain se refuse à donner à l'accusé la possibilité de faire témoigner des membres d'Al-Qaida capturés. Le Français, qui assure lui-même sa défense, a toujours affirmé appartenir au réseau d'Oussama Ben Laden mais n'avoir aucun lien avec les attaques contre New York et Washington.

L'accusation a changé

Il veut interroger Ramzi Ben Al-Shaiba, arrêté au Pakistan en 2002 et considéré comme l'un des organisateurs des attaques du 11 septembre. La juge Brinkema l'y a autorisé à deux reprises, même par le truchement d'un enregistrement vidéo. Le département de la justice s'y oppose. "Le dommage d'une comparution de Ramzi Ben Al-Shaiba pour les Etats-Unis serait immédiat et irréparable. Nous menons une guerre qui n'a vraiment rien à voir avec les autres. Le champ de bataille se trouve aussi dans la tête des membres d'Al-Qaida", a prévenu le procureur général Michael Chertoff. Mais la Cour d'appel a jugé prématuré le recours du gouvernement, lui laissant toutefois la possibilité de le reformuler plus tard. Elle reconnaît à la fois le droit du prévenu à un procès équitable et la mission de l'administration de préserver la sécurité nationale. Mais elle s'est déclarée "contrainte de rejeter" la requête des autorités n'ayant pas l'autorité pour trancher.
Ramzi Ben Al-Shaiba était le responsable de la "cellule de Hambourg". Celle-ci comprenait l'Egyptien Mohammed Atta et les Saoudiens Marouane Al-Shehhi et Ziad Jarrah, qui se trouvaient aux commandes de trois des quatre appareils détournés le 11 septembre. Ramzi Ben Al-Shaiba était en contact avec Zacarias Moussaoui et lui a envoyé 14 000 dollars à la fin de juillet 2001. Le Français semble alors avoir été mobilisé en hâte et envoyé s'entraîner sur des simulateurs de vol de Boeing à Minneapolis (Minnesota), où son comportement suspect conduira à son arrestation le 16 août. Le département de la justice l'a ensuite longtemps présenté comme le vingtième pirate de l'air. Mais la thèse de l'accusation a changé au fil du temps. Elle le considère maintenant comme appartenant à une équipe qui devait détourner un cinquième avion et l'écraser sur la Maison Blanche.
Le gouvernement américain se trouve face à un dilemme. Soit, comme il s'y est engagé, il laisse se poursuivre la procédure civile au risque de ne pouvoir empêcher les contacts entre membres d'Al-Qaida, soit il confie l'affaire à un tribunal militaire.
Des officiels du département de la justice en ont ouvertement évoqué la possibilité. Mais un jugement à huis clos et le statut d'ennemi combattant pour Zacarias Moussaoui, pourraient provoquer un tollé. Ils compliqueraient aussi la coopération en matière de lutte contre le terrorisme entre les Etats-Unis d'un côté, l'Europe et la France de l'autre. Il reste une dernière possibilité pour l'administration : tenter une fois encore de gagner du temps, faire à nouveau appel, et prendre le risque de perdre une nouvelle fois.

Le gouvernement Bush a besoin de forces alliées supplémentaires pour plusieurs raisons: le pentagone veut déguiser l'occupation américaine en occupation internationale; de plus, s'il y avait d'autres troupes étrangères, le coût de l'opération, qui d'après le Congrès américain coûté trois milliards de dollars par mois, serait réduit d'autant. Wolfowitz a dit que le pentagone serait sans doute obligé de demandé au congrès des crédits supplémentaires pour payer les frais des opérations militaires en Irak.

RAWAH, Iraq , June 14 (IslamOnline.net) - American troops "slaughtered" more than one hundred Iraqi civilians, most of them killed while asleep, at the early hours of Friday, June 13, eyewitnesses told IslamOnline.net. The U.S. forces deliberately opened fire from tanks and helicopter gunships at the houses of Iraqi civilians in Rawah, 400 kilometer to the north-west of Baghdad, killing tens of people, they charged. The town residents rushed out of their homes which came under heavy American bombardment. Some of them emerged with their light arms and battled the occupation forces, killing and injuring an unspecified number of American troops, eyewitnesses told IOL correspondent.
"The bodies of 12 of your boys were found tied with ropes, each with a bullet in the head. The Americans detained them and immediately executed them in this horrible way," charged Abu Saadoun, one of the town tribal leaders. "Now we have to avenge not only the occupation of our country but also the slaughtering of our boys. We will open the gates of hell on the Americans," he pledged in exclusive statements to IOL.
Tired and exhausted Abu Khaled told IOL he spent three hours in the desert at the outskirts of Rawah digging a mass grave for the victims of the American massacre. "We buried more than 80 of our sons but are still puzzled what pushed the Americans to massacre our people. We are far away from Baghdad and no fighting has been reported here. "We have no training camps as alleged by the occupation forces. No Baathists. No nothing. [...]

U-S military tells Iraqis to turn in all guns or face arrest

Baghdad, Iraq-AP -- The U-S military is now telling Iraqis they cannot own or sell guns. Any Iraqi who does faces arrest, according to a new radio spot running in the country. Lieutenant General David McKiernan, who is commanding U-S forces on the ground, says a new set of laws in Iraq are aimed at rebuilding law and order. One problem U-S forces have is the tens of thousands of weapons Saddam Hussein's government gave out in its final days in power. Many ended up in the hands of looters or criminals. McKiernan has issued a statement saying coalition forces will hunt down those people -- whom he calls a threat to everyone in Iraq. He is urging any Iraqi who owns a firearm to turn it in to coalition forces.

U.S. To Ban "Incitement" Against Occupation In Iraq

In a move that is likely to trigger an outcry from Iraqi parties, politicians and scholars as well as international human rights advocates, the U.S.-led occupation administration said Thursday, June 5, it would outlaw any "incitement" against the Anglo-American forces in Iraq even inside mosque.
The new measure, which is to "go out fairly shortly", would prohibit "incitement" to "armed insurrection", including attacks on the U.S. and British troops, an administration spokesman said. He said the ban would be applicable even to mosques if preachers encourage attacks against the Anglo-American forces in their sermonsæ reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).
"If someone says: 'Don't shake hands with coalition military', we would not consider that incitement. If someone said attack our forces and drive the coalition out of their province, we would consider that to be incitement," the spokesman argued.

Oil was the main reason for military action against Iraq, a leading White House hawk has claimed, confirming the worst fears of those opposed to the US-led war. The US deputy defence secretary, Paul Wolfowitz -- who has already undermined Tony Blair's position over weapons of mass destruction (WMD) by describing them as a "bureaucratic" excuse for war - has now gone further by claiming the real motive was that Iraq is "swimming" in oil.
The latest comments were made by Mr Wolfowitz in an address to delegates at an Asian security summit in Singapore at the weekend, and reported today by German newspapers Der Tagesspiegel and Die Welt.
Asked why a nuclear power such as North Korea was being treated differently from Iraq, where hardly any weapons of mass destruction had been found, the deputy defence minister said: "Let's look at it simply. The most important difference between North Korea and Iraq is that economically, we just had no choice in Iraq. The country swims on a sea of oil."

How Saddam was betrayed?

Amman.-- Saddam Hussein was betrayed by three of his cousins, senior military officers, and a former cabinet minister, in moves that allowed the fall of Baghdad, ex regime officials have said. According to these former officials Saddam's cousins ordered troops not to fight against the US-led coalition and issued reports saying that the Iraqi leader was dead.
"The head of the Republican Guard Maher Sufian al-Tikriti, who was considered the shadow of Saddam, told the troops not to fight when US forces entered Baghdad on April 8," one of the sources said on condition of anonymity.
"The verbal order was confirmed by the head of intelligence, Taher Jalil al-Harbush al-Tikriti, as well as military officer Hussein Rashid al-Tikriti whose son headed the office of Saddam's youngest son Qussay," the source said. At the same time a rumour that Saddam was killed in the bombing of the Baghdad neighbourhood of Al-Mansur on April 7 began to spread among government members. The information was spread by one cabinet minister, the source said, refusing to identify the former official. "This minister was then evacuated by American troops along with his family and now lives in a European country," the source said.
The three military officers and their families were also evacuated by US troops aboard a military aircraft following the fall of Baghdad, the source said. The former officials also said that Saddam had visited the Al-Azamiya district in central Baghdad on April 8 with Qusay.A videotape broadcast by Abu Dhabi television in April showed Saddam being cheered by a crowd of supporters in Al-Azamiya, but it was reported to have happened on April 9, the day Baghdad fell to US forces.
"During that visit Saddam said he had been betrayed, referring to two US bombardments targetting him," one of the sources said, quoting witnesses present in Al-Azamiya. "Saddam Hussein knew he had been betrayed and that information on his whereabouts had been handed over to the Americans on the night of March 19," one of the sources said. The former Iraqi leader then ordered a close surveillance of his personal guards who were among the very few to know about his activities, the source added.
"Thus he voluntarily let it be known that he would be visiting Al-Mansur on April 7," he said. "As usual he took a taxi that was discretely followed by his guards and went to a restaurant but while his guards thought he was inside the building, Saddam came out from a rear door," he said. US forces bombed the building soon after but Saddam emerged unscathed, the source added. "Saddam Hussein no longer needed proof and ordered the execution of these officers who were known to be among those most faithful to him," the source added.

Attacks in Central Iraq Become More Frequent and Sophisticated

Tikrit, Iraq, June 9 -- Attacks on American troops are growing in frequency and sophistication across central Iraq, a crescent of discontent and hostility where many Iraqis remain opposed to the U.S. occupation of their country. Almost every day, well-organized groups of assailants using assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars are ambushing U.S. Army convoys, patrols, checkpoints, garrisons and public offices used by troops to interact with the civilian population. In response, U.S. forces are trying to crush resistance through house-to-house searches, arms seizures and deadly force, in some cases with fatal consequences for innocent bystanders. Army commanders say the attacks are locally planned and attribute them to "remnants" of the Baath Party and other supporters of deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. While they describe the attacks as the work of a single resistance group, they suspect that some armed fighters may be moving from city to city, looking for vulnerable targets and pressuring the local population to secretly support their activities. They say these fighters appear to be staging hit-and-run actions designed to kill American troops, but not engage them in firefights.
The persistence and evolution of tactics is giving the violence the appearance of a guerrilla movement. In the last two weeks, eight U.S. soldiers have been killed and another 25 wounded, according to Pentagon announcements and news reports. The numbers of Iraqis killed, wounded or apprehended number in the dozens. On Sunday night, a U.S. soldier was killed at a checkpoint near the Syrian border. The assailants first requested medical assistance for a passenger in their vehicle and when the soldiers approached, they fired handguns at them. U.S. troops returned fire, killing one and capturing another. At least one assailant fled in the vehicle, according to the U.S. Central Command. The soldier has not been identified. The hostility to U.S. forces appears to be most intense in a region west and north of Baghdad dominated by Sunni Muslims who were at the core of the Baath Party and Hussein's government. Cities such as Baqubah, Samarra, Habaniyah, Khaldiya, Fallujah and Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's home town, have been particularly dangerous for U.S. troops.
"These are military-type attacks," said Capt. John Ives, of the 3rd Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade in Fallujah, 35 miles west of Baghdad. "It could get worse before it gets better. It's a matter that some people want us dead. We're just going to have to take them out." The division was recently dispatched from Baghdad to reinforce the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in west central Iraq. In Tikrit early Saturday morning, U.S. troops were besieged at the central building used by the military to deal with Iraqi civilians seeking help. Army officers today recalled the assault as sophisticated and organized. "They were definitely not some kids with pistols. It was well planned and well executed. They knew where we were in the building. They had done reconnaissance," said Army Maj. George Pitt in Tikrit, about 90 miles north of Baghdad. The Tikrit attack began with small-arms fire. "They were probing us, seeing how we reacted. That's how we would have done it," Staff Sgt. Jaime Carrasco said. "They knew how to use their weapons." Shots were fired from protected positions on rooftops across the street and from behind a berm. U.S. troops later found spent shells, rucksacks and food -- signaling patience and preparation, Carrasco said.
Then, suddenly, the small-arms fire died down, and the U.S.-occupied building was hit by at least six to eight volleys of rocket-propelled grenades. "Look at the shot groups," Carrasco said, pointing to the pocked mortar and gaping holes on the third floor of the building. "See how tight they are." The rocket-propelled grenades hit their targets within four feet of each other. One barely missed a window. Another projectile penetrated a metal door, flew across the room and exited through the back wall. The grenades were fragmentary devices, designed to spew shrapnel upon impact. Only one did, and the wall below impact was flecked with deep gouges. "This is very, very lucky thing," Carrasco said. "Somebody was looking out for us." Carrasco said he believed the assailants knew that this was the room where the infantry soldiers guarding the building at night slept or relaxed on their breaks. After the rocket-propelled grenades were fired, the U.S. forces returned fire.
During the fight, a group of military police three houses away were also attacked. "This was coordinated. Two locations. Same time," Carrasco said. Five soldiers were wounded, one seriously. A military policeman was shot in the face outside the building and drowned in his own blood; medics performed an emergency tracheotomy, but he died. The Pentagon has identified him as Pvt. Jesse M. Halling, 19, of Indianapolis, of the 401st Military Police Company, based at Ft. Hood, Tex. Pitt said military investigators do not know who attacked them or why. The Tikrit attack took place where the military does its community outreach, taking complaints about stolen vehicles, looting, or the fate of men missing or arrested, and answering questions from pensioners or former state employees about when they might get paid again. The troops in the building say they believe that some Iraqis who come seeking help during the day are actually looking for targets to hit at night. "You can't tell friend from foe," one soldier said. Several soldiers said the increased hostilities had made their job of winning the hearts and minds of Iraqis more difficult, and after the attack, the Tikrit building was fortified with sandbags and heavier weapons.
On Sunday night, U.S. patrols arrested two men outside the building who were carrying binoculars and rough map and outline of the site and its possible vulnerabilities, Pitt said. In Fallujah, there are also signs of increasing organization and tactical efficiency of resisters, U.S. officers said. Some groups have begun to give themselves names -- things as simple as "The Fighters," according to graffiti on the walls in the town. Gunmen are using spotters placed along the roads or in mosques to signal the arrival of U.S. troops, Capt. Ives said. Once, someone cut electricity to a neighborhood as U.S. forces were approaching. In Fallujah early today, a convoy of seven U.S. Humvees was attacked as the vehicles moved down Old Cinema Street, a main commercial thoroughfare. The vehicles were ambushed by rifle fire from four sides. The Americans fired at buildings on both sides of the street, chipping concrete off the facades. No one on either side was injured.
There have been attacks on U.S. forces every night in Fallujah since Wednesday, when Iraqis fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a group of soldiers positioned at a ruined police station, killing one. The assailants escaped. Fallujah has been embittered since U.S. forces killed 17 Iraqis during two separate protests in April. U.S. authorities said the soldiers fired in self-defense. "We've got to be on our toes all the time. Eyes open, scanning the buildings. It's not tanks and infantry we're fighting anymore. It's something more hidden," said Staff Sgt. Fred Frisbie, a military policeman. "There's some speculation that Iraqis were disoriented when we first arrived, but now some are getting together to organize and attack," added Sgt. Conrad Sheley, who belongs to the 66th Military Intelligence Group of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. "We have to get it under control."
In Fallujah, U.S. forces are rounding up suspected troublemakers, searching houses for weapons, and patrolling every neighborhood. Closing down Fallujah's arms market, a longtime center of business in the desert town, is a priority, Ives said. On Sunday, U.S. troops chased a suspected arms-parts dealer named Ahmed Junabi into the cluttered and crowded weapons market area. U.S. officials say that Junabi pulled out a pistol as he was fleeing the Americans in an old Iraqi army car, which he had evidently looted. The troops shot and killed him. Iraqi witnesses said he was unarmed. The incident enraged merchants in the bazaar. They had grown accustomed -- even under Hussein's rule -- to smuggling and selling weapons with impunity. "We never saw a policeman in here before. Now the Americans send in their soldiers," said Hassan Ali Azobayi, a butcher. Mohammed Dulaimi, a self-described engineer, led a crowd in chants of "vengeance" and "We want Saddam." When a German reporter arrived, they chanted, "Hitler, Hitler." One protester displayed a small bullet and insisted it was uranium.
"You will see. We will avenge this killing. For every Iraqi dead, an American must die," said Dulaimi. Some of the inhabitants of Fallujah's Old Cinema Street said that today's ambush was a response to the market killing. "We don't accept that the Americans roam our streets," declared Khalaf Jumeili, who said he was an Islamic scholar. Errors are compounding the problems for the U.S. forces in Fallujah. On Saturday night, U.S. soldiers guarding the mayor's offices shot and killed a member of the mayor's own security detachment. The victim, Sami Montasir, along with another guard, ran from the building to pursue two thieves they saw loading rubber tubing onto a truck in a construction area. When the security guards fired on the suspects, the Americans fired on them. The second guard, Omar Menah, suffered a leg wound. "These men were doing what they were supposed to do. They weren't shooting anywhere near the Americans," said Lt. Ayad Abel, head of the city hall Iraqi security unit. "The Americans are usually cool, but they have to be more careful."
The day before, a convoy of U.S. troops came under fire near the Maadithi mosque and cemetery, located near Fallujah's railway station, U.S. officers said. They fired into the cemetery and on adjacent roads. One Iraqi died -- a man named Kudair, according to officials in the mayor's office. Kudair was repairing his truck on a side street. Many residents of Fallujah are demanding that U.S. forces withdraw from the town. The U.S. response has been to step up patrols. Almost every day, motorists with cars battered by errant tanks or Bradley fighting vehicles show up at city hall to ask for compensation. Maj. Peter Buotte, with the 411th Civil Affairs Battalion, said he instructs the Iraqis to fill out a form, which he tells them will eventually result in payment for the damage. Why is it so difficult find out who the people are who are running Iraq? What does the Bush administration have to hide? We read the odd story in the press about these characters but you have to dig deep to find out much about their backgrounds. All are hand-picked Bush appointees. All have close associations with other Bush associates. All are right-wing, some extremely so. All are pro-Israeli. The entire operation is being run out of the Pentagon and many of the people picked for the various posts are military or former men or have close connections to the military.
Virtually all those selected are, according to the International Herald Tribune,

"[T]he nucleus of the Bush administration's new Iraqi government. One of the faraway masters, in the minds of many here, is someone known fondly - or not so fondly, depending on one's political orientation - as Wolfowitz of Arabia. The reference, of course, is to Paul Wolfowitz, the undersecretary of defense, who has dispatched some of his protégés here to prepare key Baghdad ministries for American management."

Michael Mobbs, will be in charge of 11 of the 23 Iraqi ministries. Mobbs is a former law associate of Undersecretary of defense Douglas Feith, another right-wing ideologue with close connections to Richard Perle.
Mobbs is effectively running the civil administration of Iraq yet he has absolutely no qualifications for the position. No background in governance. No background in civil administration or affairs. No knowledge of Iraq, its people or its culture. And rather than being an advocate of civil or human rights, his record is diametrically opposed to rights of any kind, starting with Americans, so God knows how he'll deal with the Iraqis.

"A Pentagon lawyer, Mobbs has been a leading defender of the notorious Camp Ray X. Mobbs comes with a reputation for anti-civil rights and a serious disregard for international conventions on human rights. Mobbs campaigned to have US citizens imprisoned without charge and was the prime mover behind the suspension of judicial rights."

Mobbs is the lawyer who's sole testimony resulted in the indefinite detention of US citizen Yaser Esam Hamdi, an alleged Taliban fighter. The court hasn't seen any of the 'evidence' that resulted in Hamdi's indefinate detention without trial. The federal government has resisted all attempts to have any evidence at all being brought before the court.

"The government's only evidence of Hamdi's Taliban activities is a two-page declaration by Michael Mobbs, a senior Pentagon official in charge of detainees.
The declaration, filed with the court, states that Hamdi received weapons training and remained with a Taliban unit after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. He was carrying a Russian-made assault rifle when he was captured alongside Taliban forces by the Northern Alliance.
Mobbs' statement wasn't enough evidence for Norfolk's U.S. District Court Judge Robert G. Doumar, who had ordered the government to produce Hamdi's statements, a list of his interrogators and copies of statements by Northern Alliance forces regarding Hamdi's capture.
[However,] [t]he government can indefinitely hold Yaser Esam Hamdi, the American citizen and alleged Taliban fighter being detained in the Norfolk Naval Station brig, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided that enemy combatants can be jailed during wartime without criminal charges, regardless of whether they are American citizens.
As Bush administration officials hailed Wednesday's ruling, it was viewed as a blow by more than 150 scholars, legal and human rights groups, including the American Bar Association, who argued that jailing an American citizen without filing criminal charges violates the Constitution."

Judging by the people who have been selected, effectively, a military junta is or will be, running Iraq.
Walter Slocombe, a lawyer and former under-secretary of defense during the Clinton administration and advocate of a 'first use' policy of nuclear weapons even against a non-nuclear power (See

His role is to create a new Iraqi army that will be totally under the control of the Pentagon. According to one report, he will be,

Importantly, Slocombe is one Democrat who has been recruited by the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) along with other right-wing Democrats intent on making the Middle East 'safe' for Israel.

"Not many Americans have heard of Spozhmai Maiwandi, but many Afghanis have. A native of the Central Asian nation, she ran the Pashto service of the Voice of America for over a decade. VOA is the paid broadcast arm of the U.S. government, but Ms. Maiwandi is a journalist, and she aired more than just American propaganda. She reported the news, and, in a broadcast shortly after September 11, included the remarks of the Taliban leader, Mullah Omar. That raised hackles in the Bush administration, and she quickly became a target.
Soon, under Bush-appointed director Robert Reilly, VOA turned on Ms. Maiwandi. First she found insulting notes slipped under her door by anonymous coworkers, she said, producing a note that simply read:
"This is no longer your office. Move your big [expletive removed] out of here."
Then she was fired from the Pashto service, although in an Orwellian twist Reilly claims he gave her a promotion. "You are being given a temporary promotion," VOA's department of human resources wrote to Ms. Maiwandi. "This action is not a reassignment from your current position. Your position of record remains Chief of the Pashto Service," the note added, even though she would no longer run the service."

Lewis Lucke, is heading up 'reconstruction' and who according to Forbes magazine is,

"A humble Austin, Texas, globetrotter named Lewis Lucke. Garner may have gotten all the press as he pressed flesh with U.S. troops, but it's Lucke's job to turn on the lights. His bed at the palace was a cot he had brought with him from Kuwait. "We were camping, in essence," says the 52-year-old.
And now he's supervising Bechtel Group as it starts to dredge Umm Qasr, Iraq's only seaport, to ready it for matériel to rebuild the country. Lucke is the coordinator for reconstruction, managing a $2.5 billion project that some expect will inevitably balloon to $30 billion, if not $100 billion. As the ranking man on the ground for the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID), his hands are also closest to the purse strings, since his State Department branch is funding and contracting out much of the work.

Experts from the region including Palestinian-American author Said Aburish and Saudi analyst Mai Yamani are not too confident about the men chosen to run Iraq,

"Aburish and other analysts and diplomats say the U.S. government lacks the expertise and cultural awareness to run a multi-ethnic, multi-religious country battered by three devastating wars in 20 years and 12 years of sanctions.

"The more this move looks as if it serves U.S. interests the more it will be distrusted in the region," said Saudi analyst Mai Yamani. "It will reinforce the idea that they are occupiers and colonizers."

US turns to the Taliban

Karachi -- Such is the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, compounded by the return to the country of a large number of former Afghan communist refugees, that United States and Pakistani intelligence officials have met with Taliban leaders in an effort to devise a political solution to prevent the country from being further ripped apart.
According to a Pakistani jihadi leader who played a role in setting up the communication, the meeting took place recently between representatives of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and Taliban leaders at the Pakistan Air Force base of Samungli, near Quetta.
The source told Asia Times Online that four conditions were put to the Taliban before any form of reconciliation can take place that could potentially lead to them having a role in the Kabul government, whose present authority is in essence limited to the capital:
Mullah Omar must be removed as supreme leader of the Taliban. All Pakistani, Arab and other foreign fighters currently engaged in operations against international troops in Afghanistan must be thrown out of the country. Any US or allied soldiers held captive must be released. Afghans currently living abroad, notably in the United States and England, must be given a part in the government - through being allowed to contest elections -- even though many do not even speak their mother tongue, such as Dari or Pashtu.
Apparently, the Taliban refused the first condition point blank, but showed some flexibility on the other terms. As such, this first preliminary contact made little headway. It is not known whether there will be further meetings, but given the fact that the reason for staging the talks in the first place remains unchanged, more contact can be expected.
The channels for the contact have been set up by Taliban who defected when the government collapsed in Kabul, and fled to Pakistan, where they were sheltered in ISI safe houses. Now these defectors, working with Pakistani jihadis who know how to approach the Taliban leadership, are acting as go-betweens.
The backdrop to the first meeting is an ever-increasing escalation in the guerrilla war being waged against foreign troops in Afghanistan. Small hit-and-run attacks are a daily feature in most parts of the country, while face-to-face skirmishes are common in the former Taliban stronghold around Kandahar in the south.
According to people familiar with Afghan resistance movements, the one that has emerged over the past year and a half since the fall of the Taliban is about four times as strong as the movement that opposed Soviet invaders for nearly a decade starting in 1979.
The key reason for this is that the previous Taliban government - which is dispersed almost intact in the country after capitulating to advancing Northern Alliance forces without a fight - is backed by the most powerful force in Afghanistan: clerics and religious students.
For centuries, these people were the most respected segment of Afghan society, and before 1979 they never participated in politics. On the contrary, their role was one of reconciliation in conflicts. During the Afghan resistance movement against the USSR, things changed, and clerics threw their weight behind the mujahideen struggle, but, with a few exceptions, such as Maulana Yunus Khalis, they were not in command.
With the withdrawal of the Soviets and the emergence of the Taliban in the early 1990s, though, the situation once again changed. The Taliban, taking advantage of the power struggles among bitterly divided militias in Kabul, consolidated themselves into an effective political movement led by clerics and in 1996 seized power in Kabul. A part of their success also lay in the fact that initially Afghans, especially Pashtuns who make up the majority of the country, were reluctant to take up the gun against clerics.
Now, in the renewed guerrilla war against foreign troops, it is the clerics who are calling the shots. For instance, Hafiz Rahim is the most respected cleric in the Kandahar region, and he commands all military operations from the sanctuary of the mountainous terrain.
The US forces have employed maximum air support and advanced technology in an attempt to curtail attacks, but without the help of local Afghan forces they are unable to track down Hafiz Rahim, who to date has targeted US convoys scores of times. The United States has admitted a few deaths, while the Taliban claim they have killed many more than the official numbers state. For funds, the Taliban use money looted from the central bank before they abandoned Kabul, estimated in excess of US$110 million, in addition to money received from Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda.
At the same time, famed warlord Gulbbudin Hekmatyar has joined the resistance after returning from exile in Iran. His Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) is the most organized force in Afghanistan, and its participation has added real muscle to the resistance. Many top slots in the Kabul administration are occupied by former HIA members who, although they were once anti-Taliban, are loyal to the Islamic cause and anti-US. Also, several provincial governors and top officials are former HIA commanders. They are suspect in the eyes of the Americans, but because of their huge political clout it is impossible to remove them.
With this groundswell of support - even if in places it is only passive - and with Kabul's influence restricted to the capital, the Americans and their allies will remain vulnerable targets, let alone be in a position to restore any form of law and order. It is in situations like this, argue most experts on Afghanistan, that traditionally insurrections begin in the Afghan army against foreign administrators.
This is not the end of the problems. More than 2 million Afghan refugees, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, have returned to Afghanistan from countries all over the world, including India, Russia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Zimbabwe and Central Asian countries. Many of them belonged to communist factions during and after the Soviet invasion, while a number of their counterparts remained and now hold positions in Kabul.
At present, Kabul is divided into two main factions. The first is pro-US, which is represented by the US and allied troops and those loyal to President Hamid Karzai. The second is pro-Russian and pro-Iranian, represented by Defense Minister General Qasim Fahim and his Northern Alliance forces. Although the camps are cooperating at present, they are silently building their support bases to make a grab for full power once the present interim administration runs its course, a process that is due to begin in October with a loya jirga (grand council).
In this respect, every returned or returning former "communist comrade" is important, for should the Northern Alliance faction develop sufficient critical mass, it would come as no surprise if its leaders openly forged an alliance with the resistance movement.

Pakistani newspaper, The News, quoted a Taliban spokesman as saying Mullah Omar announced the formation of the body in an audio tape sent from his hiding place in Afghanistan.

Jews flooding into Germany

Washington, June 5 -- The turbulent relationship between Jews and Germany is taking yet another stunning turn. Seventy years after Hitler's ascendance to power and 60 years after the Holocaust, more Jews are flooding into Germany than into any other country, Israel included.
This makes Germany the one nation with the fastest-growing Jewish community in the world. Ironically, one reason for this state of affairs is the anti-Semitism in their countries of origin, chiefly successor states of the former Soviet Union, Julius H. Schoeps, head of the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies in Potsdam, told United Press International Thursday.

"Of course there are other reasons as well, such as economic considerations and the chance to give their children a better education," Schoeps allowed. "Moreover, they see Germany as a 'safe country.'"

As a result of this accelerating migration, the Jewish population in Germany has swollen from 33,000 in 1990, the year of that nation's reunification, to 200,000 today, according to Schoeps. Before World War II more than half a million Jews lived in that country. At the end of the war there were only 15,000 left.
But in 2002, 19,262 Jews from the former Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States settled in Germany, compared with 18,878 who went to Israel and fewer than 10,000 who were admitted into the United States. German consulates in CIS cities report that 70,000 more Jews have already applied for resettlement visas. In addition, thousands of Israelis, whose parents had fled to Palestine in the Nazi years, are now claiming German passports to which they are entitled by German law.
"Thanks to these developments I believe there is a good chance for the emergence of a new German Jewry," said Schoeps, a historian who was born in World War II in Stockholm, where his parents had found exile. "I absolutely welcome this," Rabbi Carl Feit, a Talmudic scholar and cancer researcher at New York's Yeshiva University, told UPI in an interview. Feit interpreted the Jews' return to Germany as "a fulfillment of a biblical spiritual theme -- the rebirth and rejuvenation for which there are many examples in history, where Jewish people in one part of the world or another have seemed to have been eclipsed only to reappear against all odds and common expectations." Feit added, "The biblical paradigm for this rebirth was the return of the Jews to Israel" from the Babylonian captivity in 516 B.C.
There are many ironies in this sudden rejuvenation of Ashkenazic Judaism. The very word, Ashkenaz, which defines German and Eastern European Jews, is the Hebrew term for Germany. This is so, explained Feit, "because the entire Jewish culture in Eastern Europe derives from Jewish communities that lived in three German cities along the Rhine more than 900 years ago." "The German and Jewish cultures used to fertilize each other," Feit went on. Yiddish, the idiom spoken by 12 million Jews up until World War II, is essentially a medieval German dialect. The two languages are so close that Arnold Beichman, the New York-born writer and political scientist, often quips, "I like to speak German because it is just Yiddish with a better accent."
According to Feit, Yiddish, too, is currently undergoing rejuvenation after decades of decline. This is to some extent also true in Germany, where the ultra-orthodox Lubavichers, coming primarily from New York and London, are doing mission among the mostly secularized Russian-speaking immigrants, most of whom "don't even know the difference between a synagogue and a church," Schoeps said. The Yiddish-speaking Lubavichers are a Hassidic sect. In their effort to bring immigrants from Eastern Europe to faith, they compete with assorted other religious movements, including Messianic Jews. Only about 60,000 of the 175,000 Jewish immigrants in Germany are already registered with any of the 84 synagogue congregations, most of which have sprung up in the past decade, Schoeps related. "In some eastern German cities, such as Potsdam, Halle and Rostock, our congregations are now 100 percent Russian-speaking," he said.
Do they fear that anti-Semitism in Germany might once again be on the rise? "They are not really worried," replied Schoeps, who attributed the spate of racist outrages in the early 1990s primarily to hooligans raised without any values in eastern Germany's gray Moscow-style housing estates. As for the rest of the population, "there are now between 200,000 and 300,000 Russians in Berlin alone, and Germans don't know and don't really care who among them is Jewish and who is not." But there is another irony in this influx of Jews from the East: Although most are highly educated -- Schoeps described the quintessential immigrant as a mathematician from, say, St. Petersburg -- they cost the German taxpayer money. "Between 60 and 70 percent of them are on welfare because they cannot find work. They don't speak German yet, and their Soviet diplomas are not recognized by Germany."
There are now programs to retrain them. "We have developed projects to turn mathematicians into computer specialists, for example," said Schoeps. But that's only one side. The other side is that now there is a sudden need for teachers, social workers, rabbis and cantors. At Potsdam University, of which Schoeps' center is part, a rabbinical seminary -- the Abraham Geiger Kolleg --has been created. What will Germany's new Jewish culture look like? Before Hitler, German Jews were among the most assimilated in Europe; culturally they were thoroughly German. Berlin was the first city in Europe with a Jewish high school, created in 1778 along the traditional German "Gymnasium" lines at the instigation of Moses Mendelssohn, the great Jewish Enlightenment philosopher.
This school was closed in 1942 and did not reopen until 1993, when the sudden influx of Jews from the East commenced. But then most of its students and faculty were gentiles, and the Hebrew teacher was a Protestant pastor. Reflecting on the rich cultural history of Jews in Germany, which this school represents, Schoeps mused, "The intellectual heritage of German Jews included Goethe, Friedrich Schiller and Heinrich Heine, while this new Jewish community is at home with Tolstoy and Gogol." But then, what about the next generation of German Jews? "Probably Goethe, Schiller and Heine, plus Gogol and Tolstoy -- not a bad prospect, don't you think?"

Neo-cons move quickly on Iran

Reports that top officials in the administration of President George W. Bush will meet this week to discuss US policy toward Iran, including possible efforts to overthrow its government, mark a major advance in what has been an 18-month campaign by neo-conservatives in and out of the administration.
Overshadowed until last month by their much louder drum-beating for war against Iraq, the neo-cons' efforts to now focus US attention on "regime change" in Iran have become much more intense since early May, and have already borne substantial fruit.
A high-level, albeit unofficial, dialogue between both countries over Iraq, Afghanistan and other issues of mutual interest was abruptly broken off by Washington 10 days ago amid charges by senior Pentagon officials that al-Qaeda agents based in Iran had been involved in terrorist attacks against US and foreign targets in Saudi Arabia on May 12. Tehran strongly denied the charge.
Now, according to reports in the Washington Post and the New York Times, the administration is considering permanently cutting off the dialogue -- which included its senior envoy for both Iraq and Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad -- and adopting a far more confrontational stance vis-a-vis Tehran that could include covert efforts to destabilize the government.
Pentagon hawks, particularly Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and Undersecretary for Policy Douglas Feith, who have long been closely associated with neo-conservatives outside the administration centered at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), reportedly favor using the heavily armed, Iraq-based Iranian rebel group, the Mujahideen-e Khalq Organization, which surrendered to US forces in April, as the core of a possible opposition military force.
They are also pursuing links with the Iranian exile community centered in southern California, which has rallied increasingly around Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former Shah of Iran who was overthrown by the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
According to a recent story in the US Jewish newspaper The Forward, Pahlavi has cultivated senior officials in Israel's Likud government with which the neo-conservatives in Washington -- both in the administration and outside it -- are closely allied.
Besides charges -- considered questionable by the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) -- that Iran may be sheltering al-Qaeda operatives allegedly involved in the May 12 attacks in Riyadh -- the administration has voiced several major concerns about the country's recent behavior.
Senior officials have accused Tehran of accelerating a major nuclear program that they say is designed to produce weapons and of infiltrating "agents" into Iraq in order to create problems for the US-dominated occupation there. They have also continued to call Iran a major supporter of international terrorism, primarily due to its backing for Hezbollah in Lebanon.
It was Tehran's backing for Hezbollah that earned it a prominent place on the target list produced by the Project for the New American Century in an open letter to Bush on September 20, 2001, just nine days after al-Qaeda's attack on New York and the Pentagon.
The letter's 41 mainly neo-conservative signers urged Bush to retaliate directly against Iran if it failed to cut off Hezbollah. The same letter anticipated virtually every other step so far taken by the administration in its "war on terror", including invading Afghanistan, severing ties to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq.
In October, 2001, influential figures at the AEI and like-minded think tanks launched a new line of attack on Iran by publishing articles in sympathetic media, most notably on the editorial pages of the Wall Street Journal, arguing that the Iranian people were so disillusioned by the ruling mullahs in Tehran, including the "reformists" around President Mohamed Khatami, that they were ready to rise up against the government in a pro-US revolution.
"Iran is ready to blow sky-high," wrote AEI scholar Michael Ledeen back in November 2001. "The Iranian people need only a bright spark of courage from the United States to ignite the flames of democratic revolution."
When, much to the State Department's dismay, Bush named Iran as part of the "axis of evil" in late January, 2002, both Israel and the neo-conservatives pressed their advantage, arguing repeatedly that dialogue even with Khatami was a waste of time and that Washington should cast its lot instead with "the people" against the regime.
Reuel Marc Gerecht, a former CIA officer and Ledeen's AEI colleague, argued last August in the neo-conservative Weekly Standard that the mere presence of US troops in Iraq would bring about revolution next door.
"Popular discontent in Iran tends to heat up when US soldiers get close to the Islamic Republic," he wrote. "An American invasion could possibly provoke riots in Iran - simultaneous uprisings in major cities that would simply be beyond the scope of regime-loyal specialized riot-control units."
But the intensity and frequency of the campaign against Tehran picked up dramatically earlier this month. On May 5, Standard Editor William Kristol, whose office is six floors below the AEI, wrote that the United States was "already in a death struggle with Iran over the future of Iraq" and that "the next great battle - not, we hope, a military battle - will be for Iran".
The very next day, the AEI hosted an all-day conference entitled "The Future of Iran: Mullahcracy, Democracy and the War on Terror", whose speakers included Ledeen, Sobhani, Gerecht, Morris Amitay of the neo-conservative Jewish Institute for National Security Studies and Uri Lubrani from the Israeli Defense Ministry.
The convenor, Hudson Institute Middle East specialist Meyrav Wurmser (whose husband David worked as her AEI counterpart until joining the administration), set the tone: "Our fight against Iraq was only one battle in a long war," she said. "It would be ill-conceived to think that we can deal with Iraq alone ... We must move on, and faster."
"It was a grave error to send [Khalilzad] to secret meetings with representatives of the Iranian government in recent weeks," Israeli-born Wurmser said, complaining that, "rather than coming as victors who should be feared and respected rather than loved, we are still engaged in old diplomacy, in the kind of politics that led to the attacks of September 11."
Just days later, the Khalilzad channel was abruptly closed, and a Christian Right ally of the neo-conservatives, Senator Sam Brownback, introduced the "Iran Democracy Act" that sets as US policy the goal of "an internationally monitored referendum to allow the Iranian people to peacefully change their system of government".
"Now is not the time to coddle this terrorist regime," he said. "Now is the time to stand firm and support the people of Iran - who are the only ones that can win this important battle."

Les prétendues armes de destruction massive de Hitler et de Saddam

N'est-il pas merveilleux de voir, à près de soixante ans de distance, le même mensonge provenir du même groupe de personnes et pour le même motif ?
En mars 1944, sous la pression d'organisations juives ou sionistes et, en particulier, à l'instigation du riche et influent juif Henry Morgenthau junior, le président Franklin D. Roosevelt créait le War Refugee Board (WRB) ou Comité des réfugiés de guerre, officine directement rattachée à la présidence. En novembre de la même année, le WRB lançait officiellement l'accusation selon laquelle Adolf Hitler menait une politique d'extermination physique des juifs d'Europe, notamment à l'aide d'armes de destruction massive appelées " chambres à gaz " et fonctionnant dans de prétendus " camps d'extermination ", en particulier dans celui d'Auschwitz. Le rapport sur le sujet portait, sous le timbre de la présidence, le titre de German Extermination Camps ­­ Auschwitz and Birkenau.
Près de soixante ans plus tard, sous la pression de groupes "néo-conservateurs" à dominante juive ou sioniste et, en particulier, à l'instigation du riche et influent juif Paul Wolfowitz, le président George W. Bush créait, en 2002, l'Office of Special Plans (OSP) ou Bureau des plans spéciaux, officine, elle aussi, directement rattachée à la présidence. L'OSP, dirigé par le juif Abram Shulsky, allait renforcer la campagne américaine visant à faire croire que Saddam Hussein possédait des "armes de destruction massive" (Massive Destruction Weapons ou MDWs); nucléaires, chimiques ou bactériologiques, ces armes auraient, nous dit-on, permis au dictateur irakien d'exterminer des peuples entiers au Moyen-Orient et dans le reste du monde; elles auraient pu servir contre Israël et les Etats-Unis.
Dans les deux cas, en 1944-1945 comme en 2002-2003, le mensonge est le même: une accusation prenant appui sur de fausses preuves; les menteurs sont les mêmes: pour la plupart, de riches et influents juifs américains; le motif, enfin, est le même: entretenir la psychose guerrière.
Mais on notera aussi les différences.
D'abord, la calomnie contre Hitler porte sur des armes (ces gigantesques abattoirs appelés "chambres à gaz"), qui, pour des raisons d'ordre chimique, sont tout simplement inconcevables dans la réalité tandis que la calomnie visant Saddam porte, elle, sur des armes parfaitement concevables et réelles vu que les accusateurs de ce dernier sont les premiers à en posséder de telles.
Ensuite, la calomnie contre Hitler a près de soixante ans d'âge et se porte mieux que jamais tandis que celle qui vise Saddam n'est vieille que de quelques mois et commence à manifester des signes de faiblesse.
Enfin, celui qui conteste la réalité des armes de destruction massive attribuées à Hitler risque, comme c'est actuellement le cas pour Ernst Zündel, de se retrouver, fers aux mains et chaînes aux pieds, dans une geôle américaine ou canadienne et d'être traité officiellement en "terroriste" tandis que la contestation de l'existence des armes de destruction massive attribuées à Saddam n'entraîne, du moins pour le moment, que des risques limités.
G. W. Bush vient de se rendre à Auschwitz-Birkenau. Devant le prétendu emplacement des prétendues armes de destruction massive de Hitler il a justifié la guerre menée contre Saddam et ses prétendues armes de destruction massive. Tant il est vrai qu'en matière d'imposture propre à entretenir la guerre et la haine, rien ne vaut Auschwitz. Là est la source empoisonnée du flot des mensonges déversés par les vainqueurs de 1945. C'est là qu'a pris forme le mythe fondateur de la nouvelle démocratie marchande. Auschwitz est la nouvelle Jérusalem. C'est là que se trouvent le sanctuaire, le Saint des Saints du Grand Mensonge, le Tabernacle et l'Arche d'alliance. Les politiciens du mondialisme s'y rendent en pèlerinage. Sur place, ils s'interdisent de poser des questions au sujet de la magique et sacro-sainte Chambre à Gaz. Ils s'inclinent. Ils reprennent en choeur les formules rituelles. Ils font serment d'allégeance au Peuple élu. Ils appellent la colère de Dieu sur les sceptiques, les mécréants, les révisionnistes.

The Bush administration is considering giving secret support to a terrorist group as part of a massive new covert operation to destabilize the ayatollahs ruling Iran, it was revealed yesterday. Administration officials confirmed to The Post last night that a proposal to get in bed with the Mujahedin e-Khalq, an anti-government group based in Iraq and once supported by Saddam Hussein, is being pushed by Pentagon hard-liners as part of a new get-tough policy to force a regime change in Tehran.
Officials stressed President Bush has made no final decisions on either trying to overthrow Iran's fanatic leaders or using the MEK. The officials added that supporting the MEK is a controversial idea within the administration because the group is on the State Department list of terrorist organizations and there are other student and reformist groups in Iran that could also receive support under any new covert action program.
The Bush administration's policymakers are calling for tough new action against Tehran in the wake of intelligence that Iran is actively pursuing a nuclear weapons program and is giving sanctuary to a handful of al Qaeda leaders, including its military commander Saif al-Adel. These leaders are suspected of orchestrating the recent terror attacks in Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

U.S. Military Plan Against Iran Ready: Russian Paper

Moscow -- Washington has drawn up a plan for military action against Iran principally using bases in Iraq but also some in Georgia and Azerbaijan, a Russian newspaper reported Thursday, May 29. But Azerbaijan flatly denied the report while the Georgian embassy in Moscow said "it knew nothing about U.S. plans in respect of Iran," which Washington accuses of supporting terrorism and having a secret nuclear weapons programme, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.
"The military action is designed to complete a popular uprising on which the Pentagon is counting," said Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily. It said that the operation's launch date would be decided at a meeting to be held Thursday in the White House. A deal had been struck between the U.S. administration and Azerbaijani President Heidar Aliyev for American troops to deploy in the Caucasus state, it added. But a spokesman for Aliyev said Thursday that the claim was "a total lie."
"Not one word corresponds to reality. This article is aimed at torpedoing relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, which are improving," Fuad Akhundov told the Moscow Echo radio station.
Asked about a U.S. military intervention in Iran, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said earlier this week that the U.S. planned to maintain a "diplomatic approach." [...] Iran had nothing to do with the "fanatic and perverted beliefs" of al-Qaeda and that any doubts about Iran's nuclear program should be cleared up by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said.
On Sunday, May 25, The Washington Post reported that Pentagon officials were pressing hard for triggering public uprising in Iran to topple the Iranian regime.
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami Khatami condemned Wednesday terrorist organizations that carry out attacks in the name of Islam, but also lashed out at the "unilateralist" response to such terrorist attacks, in an implicit criticism of the conduct of the United States in its declared war on terror. "Our world has been buffeted from two sides by violent dogmatists and arrogant powers. Paper Apologises To Galloway

The Christian Science Monitor has admitted that a set of documents upon which it based its story on were "almost certainly" fake. Mr Galloway has always strenuously denied that he took any money from the Iraqi regime. The newspaper said two of the "oldest" documents -- dated between 1992 and 1993 -- were actually written within the past few months.
Paul Van Slambrouck, Monitor editor, issued an apology both to Mr Galloway and the paper's readers. He said: "At the time we published these documents, we felt they were newsworthy and appeared credible, although we did explicitly state in our article that we could not guarantee their authenticity. "It is important to set the record straight. We are convinced the documents are bogus. We apologise to Mr Galloway and to our readers."
However the Glasgow MP has refused to accept the apology and is demanding to know who forged the documents.

'Serious libel'
He said: "This newspaper published on its front page in every country in the world that I had taken $10m from Saddam Hussein. "That was a grave and serious libel. Of course the documents were a forgery and a newspaper of that importance ought to have made the effort, both morally and legally, to establish the authenticity of those documents before they published them."
Mr Galloway also called for the prime minister to investigate the source of the documents. "As a member of the House of Commons, indeed as a British subject, I have the right to the protection of the British intelligence services from a conspiracy hatched by persons unknown but whose handiwork was conducted in foreign territory co-occupied by Great Britain," he said.
He pledged to continue his legal action against the newspaper, which is published by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. Mr Galloway is currently suspended from the Labour Party over comments he made in an interview to an Arab television station branding Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush "wolves". Both the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, and the Charity Commission, are also conducting investigations into allegations that he accepted Iraqi cash.

The chairman of Mr Galloway's constituency Labour Party, Mark Craig, said the apology from the Christian Science Monitor was a "vindication" of the MP. He said he believed similar allegations by the Daily Telegraph were also false. But in a statement, Charles Moore, editor of the Daily Telegraph, said: "The Christian Science Monitor's retraction has no bearing on The Daily Telegraph's story. Our story was based on a different set of documents found in a different set of circumstances. They were not supplied or given to us but unearthed by our reporter, David Blair, in the foreign ministry in Baghdad. We have complete confidence in our story, our reporter and the authenticity of our documents."

Censure ou dérapage ? L'exil d'une exposition sur la Palestine sur le site Photographie.com le vendredi 30 mai 2003. L'exposition "Palestine, d'un monde à l'autre" prévue dans le Grand Hall de l'Hôtel de Ville de Lille, dans le cadre du festival des Transphotographiques 2003, a été retirée le jour-même de son accrochage, le 12 mai dernier.

Mardi noir -- C'était un mardi noir pour Frédéric Faure, commissaire de l'exposition "Palestine, d'un monde à l'autre" (une exposition issue de douze années de labeur du CRP et de Pierre Devin). La veille de l'accrochage de l'exposition, le conseil municipal de Lille aurait demandé le retrait de certaines images et la coupe de plusieurs légendes, ainsi que des passages du texte de présentation. Dans un communiqué, la Mairie de Lille a défendu cette décision en affirmant que des images "légitim[aient] des actions terroristes". Restent 4 images de John Tordaï sur 16 ! -- "C'est la meilleure ! ", pour Frédéric Faure, qui a présenté "des travaux d'auteur, et non des images de reportage. C'est la Mairie de Lille qui a donné 6 ou 7.000 francs à Fabiana Figueiredo pour produire ses images, un an avant de les censurer. On peut dire qu'ils ont financé des images à caractère terroriste si l'on suit leur discours jusqu'au bout ! Mais leur décision prouve que la notion d'auteur ne rime plus à rien; 12 images de John Tordaï sur les 16 initialement prévues ont sauté.

Les infortunes de la censure -- Cette décision de la Mairie augure bien mal de l'entrée de la Ville de Lille en tant que "capitale culturelle" en 2004. Le festival des Transphotographiques n'aurait joué qu'un rôle mineur de simple exécutant dans la décision. Reste donc maintenant à la Mairie de se lancer dans une périlleuse analyse d'image pour nous expliquer comment une photographie et sa légende légitimeraient des "actions terroristes".
A l'heure où les grilles du Sénat accrochent les fortes images de Réza, comment une ville de l'importance de Lille a-t-elle pu ainsi rejeter des images d'auteur et les textes des légendes qui nous semblent seulement factuels ? Par cette décision regrettable d'un autre temps, Lille légitime la censure en bannissant la culture.

A l'occasion de la manifestation du 1er mai, le «pôle Palestine» a été l'objet d'une tentative d'intrusion de la part d'un groupe connu pour ses positions négationistes.
Estimant que ce groupe ne saurait avoir sa place dans le mouvement de solidarité avec la Palestine, fondé sur une plate-forme politique commune aux antipodes de toute approche raciste, les organisations du «pôle Palestine» avaient décidé, en sollicitant l'aide de la CNT et de la LCR, d'établir une chaîne pour empêcher cette intrusion. Ce groupe a alors essayé, à l'aide d'un camion sono, de forcer physiquement cette chaîne dont les membres menacés ont été obligés de réagir et de repousser cette agression.
Les organisations soussignées remercient la CNT et la LCR qui ont contribué utilement à protéger le cortège Palestine de ceux qui font le jeu du gouvernement Sharon en accréditant l'amalgame entre solidarité avec la Palestine et mouvement de type raciste.

Madame,
Je tiens beaucoup à répondre à votre lettre, d'une part parce que vous êtes une militante de notre association, et d'autre part, parce que, malgré des expressions sévères, je pense que sur un tel sujet passionnel, vous avez su garder un ton civil.
C'est pour cela que je saisis l'occasion que vous m'offrez pour tenter de répondre au fond sur le texte incriminé.
Le fond porte sur la qualification d'antisémite pour le texte d'Israël Shamir (que celui-ci soit juif ne change rien à la substance).
Au préalable, je repousse d'emblée votre remarque initiale sur l'opportunité de la polémique: «au moment où les massacres font rage contre les Palestiniens... »
La question de l'opportunité d'une prise de position est souvent posée par ceux qui refusent cette prise de position elle-même. Ce qui m'amène à mon tour à vous poser une question: êtes-vous d'accord pour qu'une association comme la nôtre prenne position contre des manifestations d'antisémitisme quand elles sont en relation avec la défense des droits des Palestiniens ?
Allons maintenant au fond.
Pour mieux comprendre le discours antisémite comme celui proposé par Israël Shamir, il faut en démonter le mécanisme tel qu'il s'est constitué progressivement à travers les siècles.
Le problème ici n'est pas de se demander pourquoi existe cet antisémitisme -- qui doit beaucoup à la politique de Sharon -- mais de voir en quoi il consiste et de quelle manière il s'exprime.
En gros -- il faudrait beaucoup de place pour une démonstration plus affinée -- on peut partir d'une définition de ce qu'est «un discours antisémite». C'est un discours utilisant une sorte de «répertoire anti-juif» (je préfère anti-judaïsme à antisémitisme) qui s'est constitué à travers un long itinéraire historique depuis l'anti-judaïsme chrétien jusqu'à l'antisémitisme politique moderne.
Cette pratique discursive et idéologique puise ses contenus dans un ensemble de stéréotypes, d'images, de concepts et de raisonnements qui se sont constitués au fil des siècles. En vrac, dans ce répertoire, on peut citer des traits caractériels se référant à «la nature» des Juifs, des caractéristiques physiques et morales, toute une terminologie axée sur la figure symbolique de la perversion morale souvent liée au rapport maladif à l'argent. Pour notre propos, précisons quelques stéréotypes :
-- l'hyper pouvoir financier des Juifs par rapport à leur faible nombre,
-- leur extériorité et leur déloyauté par rapport à l'Etat-Nation dont ils font partie et qui se traduisent par des théories variées de complots (du complot judéo-maçonnique au complot judéo-bolchevique) et par des accusations de cosmopolitisme au service d'intérêts anti-nationaux (l'anti-France de Charles Maurras).
-- S'ajoute à tout cet ensemble une certaine explication du monde qui attribue aux Juifs, d'abord en tant que race, aujourd'hui en tant que groupe ethno-culturel, la responsabilité principale, sinon unique, des maux qui affligent l'Humanité. C'est le bouc émissaire.
[Cette couille molle ne se hasarde pas à se demander ce qui, au delà des stéréotypes, peut être vrai ou non, vérifiable ou pas. Il faut, pour sa pseudo-démonstration, que toute cela n'ait aucun rapport avec aucune réalité. C'est vraimant facile.]
On peut alors passer au texte d'Israël Shamir. En une seule phrase, on peut y trouver une synthèse remarquable du discours antisémite: «Il est prouvé (par quels historiens ?)... que les Juifs français ont acheté secrètement et subverti des médias français durant de nombreuses années afin de déformer le discours national et de précipiter une France qui n'y était pas prête dans l'horrible et totalement inutile seconde guerre mondiale. » [Ces documents ont été exposés par Simha Epstein, du Centre Vidal-Sassoon à Tel-Aviv. Mais ce Ravenel n'est au courant de rien. ]
Superbe condensé du répertoire anti-Juif contemporain: «les Juifs ont acheté des médias durant de nombreuses années»: c'est l'hyper-puissance financière. Ils l'ont fait «secrètement» pour «subvertir»: c'est le complot. Ils l'ont fait pour «déformer le discours national»: les Juifs français sont extérieurs à la Nation; ils sont anti-nationaux. C'est l'anti-France.
Ils ont «précipité la France dans la deuxième guerre mondiale»: les Juifs français sont responsables de l'agression hitlérienne contre la France. On en arrive là à la dimension révisionniste de l'Histoire du plus grand événement du XXe siècle que fut la deuxième guerre mondiale (et le judéocide qui lui est lié) en en attribuant aux Juifs la responsabilité première.
On pourrait continuer ainsi. Contentons-nous d'une autre phrase qui concerne les «conseillers comploteurs juifs du Président Bush» désormais présentés comme «l'ennemi» des Etats-Unis. Les Juifs américains sont donc des traîtres à la nation américaine. Ils sont l'anti-Amérique. Arrêtons là. Mais une remarque. Vous parlez de «tabou levé» par Israël Shamir pour briser un silence hypocrite concernant les Juifs.
«Lever le tabou» serait même une forme d'anti-conformisme louable pour rompre ce que vous appelez «le ronron habituel des chantres sionistes de la mauvaise foi». Comme si entre les informations données par Shamir et celles données par les partisans de Sharon il n'existait pas d'espace permettant de dénoncer radicalement la politique du gouvernement israélien. Que fait le Camp de la paix israélien dans ses diverses composantes ? Que font en France notamment Le Monde Diplomatique, Politis, L'Humanité, mais aussi d'autres médias, Denis Sieffert et Joss Dray dans leur livre sur les médias ? sinon rompre de manière bien plus crédible ce que vous appelez la «loi du silence» ?
Autre observation portant sur le contexte idéologique du conflit. Il est clair que la peur de l'antisémitisme est une arme formidable entre les mains de Sharon et de tous ceux qui l'appuient, brandie dans le but de renforcer l'idée d'Israël comme refuge, mais aussi pour nier la responsabilité objective de la terrible occupation israélienne et pour réduire au silence celui qui ose critiquer la politique du gouvernement israélien. L'efficacité de cette arme peut se mesurer par l'écho qu'elle rencontre dans beaucoup de communautés juives de la diaspora qui s'alignent sur les politiques des gouvernements d'Israël quels qu'ils soient.
Cette utilisation instrumentale de l'antisémitisme est grave, non seulement parce qu'elles manipule la mémoire historique des Juifs mais aussi parce qu'elle génère une nouvel antisémitisme en contribuant à réveiller ou à susciter y compris à gauche des dérives antisémites, ce qui à son tour sert d'arguments à certains pour éviter de prendre position contre la politique coloniale d'Israël.
C'est pour cela que la lutte contre la politique du gouvernement de Sharon passe nécessairement par une lutte sans condition contre le racisme sous toutes ses formes, que ce soit le racisme d'apartheid qui est en train de s'affirmer en Israël ou le racisme anti-arabe qui s'accentue en Occident après le 11 septembre, mais aussi les phénomènes de racisme anti-Juif qui se manifestent non seulement à droite mais aussi à gauche en Europe.
Toutes ces formes doivent être dénoncées et isolées dès l'origine pour éviter la dérive vers la lutte des civilisations vers laquelle les Américains veulent nous précipiter. [Ça, c'est le raisonnement le plus con de l'année.] Dans ce contexte, il est bon de rappeler que la tradition antisémite n'est pas restée seulement discours. Elle est devenue pratique de mort.
C'est en raison de cette conscience historique et politique que nous nous sentons aussi un devoir de responsabilité face à des comportements de personnes qui croient défendre la cause palestinienne et qui en fait lui portent tort. Et si vous reconnaissez que, pour combattre efficacement l'instrumentalisation de l'antisémitisme par le gouvernement israélien (et en France par le CRIF et certains «intellectuels»), il faut savoir en dénoncer les manifestations avérées d'où qu'elles viennent, alors laissez-moi vous poser une question: pensez-vous sincèrement que le discours d'Israël Shamir n'est pas antisémite ?
Je vous prie de croire, Madame, en ma fidélité à la cause palestinienne.

On voit bien qu'aujourd'hui ce qui, dans un autre contexte et à une autre époque avait un sens précis, est devenu, après trop de manipulations, son contraire: la lutte contre l'antisémitisme, utile et raisonnable quand les juifs étaient persécutés, est devenue l'auxiliaire inévitable du racisme sioniste. Puisqu'il est si facile d'appeler antisémite, comme le fait cet idiot inutile de Ravenel, tout acte de protestation et de résistance devant l'étalage des crimes racistes commis contre les Palestiniens, ceux qui luttent contre l'antisémitisme participent activement à la dévastation de la Palestine et à la mort programmée de ses habitants. Les bonnes âmes de l'antiracisme sont dans le bain jusqu'au cou.

Chacun peut rêver sa Palestine. En, attendant, nous sommes les seuls à ne pas donner de conseils aux Palestiniens parce que nous sommes exactement sur leurs positions, celles de ceux qui sont à l'intérieur du cercle de fer israélien. Les autres, à l'extérieur, peuvent chanter toutes sortes de chansons. Ils se trémoussent pour se faire bien voir des pouvoirs qui soutiennent en entretiennent l'entreprise génocidaire en Palestine. Ils pratiquent ce qu'en termes politiques on appelle la "putasserie". Grand bien leur fasse.

FASCISTES JUIFS

Le Bétar agresse courageusement deux manifestantes à la Porte de Versailles en solidarité avec le peuple palestinien au moment où s'organisait le meeting dit des «12 heures d'amitié franco-israelienne» organisé à l'initiative du CRIF, du Consistoire central, du Consistoire de Paris, et du Fond Social Juif Unifié et de l'Alliance France-Israël. (Voir notre "édito").

Ginette Skandrani et Aïcha ont été victimes d'une sauvage agression perpétrée par le Bétar à la Porte de Versailles aujourd'hui dimanche 22 juin 2003 vers 14 h. Cette agression a eu lieu au moment où nous nous trouvions à l'angle du Blvd Victor et la rue de Vaugirard et nous nous apprêtions à aller vers le square le Marin la Meslée en direction de Balard suite à une décision préfectorale de dernière minute pour transférer le lieu de notre rassemblement le plus loin possible de la Porte de Versailles. La charge a été violente avec la police puisque nous avons été cernés des deux côtés par les nervis du Bétar et la police semble avoir été un moment débordée. C'est à ce moment que Ginette Skandrani a été frappée à la tête et au bras. Quant à Aïcha, elle a vu son auto-collant arraché avec violence au niveau de sa poitrine. Elle devait se faire hospitaliser. Enfin, un des organisateurs a été agressé par une meute du Bétar dans sa voiture après la dispersion de la manifestation.
Nous dénonçons cette énième agression du Bétar qui perpétue son terrorisme en toute impunité. La police qui s'est affrontée à cette milice n'a arrêté personne. C'est là un manquement que nous signalons aux autorités compétentes qui n'ont jamais donné des instructions pour traiter ces agresseurs conformément aux lois de la république.
Aujourd'hui, le Bétar a bien prouvé que les «territoires perdus de la république» c'est bien la République française elle-même, réduite au rôle d'observateur des opérations de l'Armée israélienne sur le sol français.

UN TÉMOIN

Cette après-midi, j'ai été témoin de faits qui, pour le moins, donnent froid dans le dos. Toute la place de la Porte de Versailles était noire de miliciens du Betar et de Défense Juive, faisant la loi, terrorisant les passants par des regards inquisiteurs et provocants, prêts pour une ratonnade contre tout Arabe se hasardant à passer par une place qui, ce jour là, a été décrétée «Territoire Occupé». Toute la masse policière en place ne semblait nullement les impressionner. Arrogants, sautillant comme des coqs, je les ai vus intimer des ordres aux «forces de l'ordre». Et c'est ainsi d'ailleurs que j'ai été contraint de quitter les lieux vers 15h45: ils ont donné l'ordre aux responsables de la brasserie «Dupont Versailles»de remballer la terrasse. Pendant tout ce temps, il n'y a pas eu de rassemblement, je n'ai pas vu d'Arabes, sauf une jeune fille empoignée par des agents l'embarquant dans un car de CRS. Je pense qu'ils ont agi ainsi pour la protéger même s'ils ne semblaient pas s'y prendre avec du velours.
Chez moi, devant mon poste télé, j'ai compris que ce jour, la République accueillait en grande pompe des responsables israéliens pour célébrer l'amitié franco-israélienne. A la tête de la délégation israélienne, il y avait Benyamin Netenyahu, celui qui s'oppose à tout processus de paix et qui réclame sans ambages le transfert (la déportation) de tous les Palestiniens.
Ce soir là, j'ai eu un grand sentiment de solitude, un grand désespoir, c'était, sans exagérer, un jour noir. J'ai vu l'UMP souiller la République dans l'ignominie de l'extrême droite israélienne. J'ai vu que l'on pouvait rester indifférent devant des ratonnades organisées contre des citoyens. Est-il concevable, qu'en France, des individus, peu importe l'ethnie d'où ils sont originaires, puissent se comporter en miliciens terrorisant les gens et faisant la loi, une loi parallèle à celles de la République. Est-ce le prix à payer pour que l'on cesse de dire que la France est «antisémite»? La France ne marcherait-elle pas sur ses valeurs en autorisant à des miliciens -- sous prétexte qu'ils sont juifs -- de se placer au dessus de toutes les lois ? Quelle humiliation pour les gardiens de la paix de recevoir des ordre de quelques milices qui, en Israël sont interdites, mais tolérées sur notre territoire ? Qu'aurait-on dit dans les journaux et à la télé si ces miliciens étaient Arabes ?

Les modérés font entendre leur voix dans la communauté juive organisée

La fragile reprise du processus de paix au Proche-Orient donne en France un peu d'oxygène aux modérés de la communauté juive organisée pour faire entendre leur voix face aux crispations identitaires alimentées par l'impasse du conflit israélo-palestinien et ses répercussions en France. Mardi soir, l'Union des étudiants juifs de France (UEJF), qui revendique 15.000 adhérents dans les universités, organise un meeting à Paris pour soutenir la "feuille de route" au Proche-Orient. Pour cette initiative, la première en France depuis l'acceptation de ce plan de paix par Israël et l'autorité palestinienne, l'UEJF s'est alliée avec RCJ, radio communautaire juive modérée et, plus original, avec Beur FM, la radio de l'immigration maghrébine, et un mouvement récemment créé, la CLE (convention laïque pour l'égalité des droits et la participation des musulmans de France).
Maître d'oeuvre de ce meeting qui verra s'exprimer des juifs, des Arabes, des politiques de droite et de gauche, ainsi que l'ancien ambassadeur d'Israël à Paris, le travailliste Eli Barnavi: le président de l'UEJF, Patrick Klugman. Ce futur avocat de 26 ans qui se définit comme "sioniste et pro-palestinien" vient d'entrer au comité directeur du Conseil représentatif des institutions juives de France (CRIF) où il va renforcer le camp des modérés déjà représenté notamment par l'avocat Michel Zaoui.

Un jeune immigré marocain s'est approché de sa table et a commencé à l'insulter, traitant Netanyahou d'assassin ayant du sang sur les mains. Un policier français a maîtrisé l'agresseur qui se trouve actuellement en garde à vue.

Les gens qui disent simplement la vérité, on les traite d'"agresseurs".

Réactions aussi chez les Verts, dont Ginette Skandrani est une des fondatrices et toujours adhérente du parti. Certains élus veulent lancer une procédure d'exclusion à son encontre.
