Attendu que, dans la livraison du Nouvel-Observateur, 3 Juillet 1982,, le professeur Hilberg confirme ses conclusions de 1961 (voy. page 12, début de colonne A), ce qui exclut ainsi définitivement la possibilité de gazages homicides dans des camps où, selon une tradition historique généralement accréditée, ils avaient eu lieu:

Raul Hilberg's The Destruction of the European Jews (1961 ) tells essentially the same story. ~he distinguished American scholar John Beaty, who was calledto active duty in the Military Intelligence Service of the War Department General S taff just before the entry of the U.S. into the war and attained the rank of Colonel by the end of the war. Among other things, Beaty was one of the two editors of the daily secret "G-Z Report", which was issued each noon to give persons in high places, including the White House, the world picture as it existed four hours earlier. In bis book Iron Curtain Over America, published in 1951 he ridiculed the six million legend with a few remarks that were unfortunately brief and inconclusive but, comlng from a man who was one of the best informed in the wotld dmcarriedsome amount of authority.

Le célèbre avocat résume en une phrase la raison pour laquelle les avocats allemands se gardent bien de soulever devant un tribunal la question de l'existence des "chambres à gaz": il semble, dit-il, que pour les défenseurs le problème de l'existence des chambres à gaz soit passé à l'arrière-plan par rapport à la question de la participation de leurs mandants aux prétendus gazages ("Anscheinend ist die Frage der Existenz von Gaskammern fuer die Verteidiger zurueickgetreten, gegenueber der Frage der Beteiligung ihrer Mandanten an der behaupteten Vergasung").
